First the bad: We had a server who was new and when I asked if the fries were in a shared fryer, she got flustered and confused and she said, “Usually people who are gluten free know what they can and cannot eat.”
It was pretty bad and I almost requested someone new, but later the manager came out to help us and talk us through the menu.
Now the good: Good tacos. Shrimp and grits was excellent. They were out of GF buns so didn’t get to try the burger.
The other Paia fish market on the island is far superior in taste, quality, and service. This paia however was really bad. We found hair in our food, our order was incorrect THREE TIMES. They did not take our food allergy concerns seriously when we returned the food back. The lady taking orders obviously hates her job. Service was very slow. Management needs to step up at this location & take things seriously. But we still love fish Paia, just not this location. Rice was not cooked properly or flavorful. Fish was cooked perfectly though. We hope this review is seen and taken seriously as we are repeat customers and love to support local businesses that offer gluten free and dairy free options.
I’ve eaten here twice and had no issues. There is a separate GF menu so ask for it at the front. I had the shrimp skewers and Hawaiian ono with no symptoms afterwards.
We came to this restaurant excited for the food based off recommendations from online and gluten free forums. My wife has celiac and we made that clear with our waitress Sarah. Sarah was kind to us but was a little slow on service even though it didn't seem incredibly busy. We waited about 5-10 minutes to get seated and then another 5-10 minutes to get water and menus. Then we waited about 20 minutes before our order was taken and drinks refilled. Sarah was knowledgeable about the menu and provided some recommendations which we trusted.
I got the Zesty Coconut Catch and my wife ordered the Soy Wasabi Local Catch gluten free. The food took about 10-15 to get to our table but the lady running it gave it to the table next to us first and then to us. The food was superbly mediocre. Not great not bad. Super dissapointing to spend $100 on food that wasn't good. The only thing I have to compliment is the fish was cooked well.
Overall not a bad place but super dissapointed at the quality for the price.
We ate here twice last week. The waiters were kind and seemed relatively well trained on celiac needs. My daughter had the fish tacos and then tried a bunless burger with a side sub (fries are cross contaminated). Felt good after both meals!
I was looking for a gluten-free poke and I got it. Super tasty. Lineups in February were long, but it is unbelievable how quickly you get your order once you order it.
Ambiance: Very cool garden setting. Live music at certain times. Overall an great atmosphere. Tends to be very busy. I'm giving it four stars, though, because they try to rush people through in 60 minutes to accommodate the next seating. They pushed us to order right away and then brought out our salad and entree at the same time.
Wait: We waited 10 minutes with a reservation. Without a reservation, you're rolling the dice. Can be hard to get reservations during the peak season.
Food: Good, but nothing special enough to justify the price. "Keoki's Style" fish was just ono with some pesto and a sweet glaze. The kale salad was quite good.
They have happy hour specials 4-5, but if you come in with a 4:45 reservation, they won't allow you to order them. You have to arrive earlier than that.
Drinks: The cocktails here are unique and good, but incredibly sugary. I would recommend them if that's your style. Prices range from $17-$25 per drink.
Service: The front of the house generally did a good job, except that they served us a dish that I was allergic to after I told them about my gluten allergy. When I looked at the dish and asked the server to confirm that it was gluten free, she immediately apologized and took it away.
It's hard to write a review leaving only 4 stars for a place that is so beloved by many (as evidenced by the need to book reservations months in advance), but sometimes the hype really hurts a place like Mama's.
We skipped the reservations and opted to walk-in for bar seating at lunch. Credit has to go to Mama's for the ambience and service. It was quite excellent. The staff and location were top notch, really capturing that retro "island" vibe. Bar staff, Tom and Jill were great.
Drinks: Mai Tai and Espresso Martini were great. Would recommend to anyone.
Food: overall my impression was that the food was good, but nothing was special. At nearly 70 dollars an entree, you are looking for that something extra. The seared ahi appetizer was good but unremarkable. The stuffed Kanpachi, a long standing menu item, was somewhat of a disappointment. However the our selection of the fresh catch (got the uku with caramelized onions, chili and avocado) was a bright spot and was quite good.
Would also like to note that they were very accommodating of gluten-free diners.
Verdict: 4/5. Go for the ambience, +/- on the food.
The food was amazing. I'm glad we made a stop for more local caught seafood. The service was very friendly, but I was a little disappointed to not receive my side dish. I had to order gluten-free, and was told I would get mixed greens, but instead I just got three full scoops of furikake rice. Delicious. But more rice than I needed.
The food was great and everyone enjoyed their dishes. Semi casual inside. A nice place to enjoy a family dinner.
Definitely stop at Umekes for poke. I was really happy to try the gluten-free Hawaiian poke. It was a generous helping of high quality, delicate and buttery fish with some tasty seasonings. Yum!
Very inviting and cozy atmosphere with a beautiful view of the ocean, especially during sunset. Located not far from the downtown Front street attractions and retail/tourist area. The food was outsanding. Many gluten-free options. Great drink and wine selection. Amazing desserts. The server was quick, very polite and made excellent recommendations. The owner was awesome, too! We celebrated a group dinner here and everyone loved it.
We initially missed the sign for this place, but once we saw it, it was easy to find and get parking.
We had gluten free fish tacos and Hawaiian poke bowl, both were pretty good. The server was knowledgeable about gluten free options, and made sure to keep the fries which could be cross contaminated on the side, which my partner could eat. He also had a lilikoi cheesecake which he loved.
Terrific food in a fun outdoor setting with shade and rain protection. We went twice and tried the kale salad, ultimate combo salad, pancakes, burgers, and a smoothie. All were excellent and our very sensitive celiac person was fine. All vegan and lots of gluten free.
The food and environment were great, a bit on the pricier side, but guess this is normal for Hawaii. Wanna give a big shout-out to our server Nathan who accomandated my boyfriend's food allergies so well! Not only did he take the effort to communicate multiple rounds with the kitchen to make sure the food is allergen-free, give recommendations, he also went above-and-beyond and offered us both regular & gluten free bread, and helped divide the steak for us to share. Nathan was super friendly and gave us tips of travelling in Hawaii too. Thank you Nathan for your amazing service!
On allergies: many GF options or food that can be modified for be GF. Gluten & soy free options are a bit more challenging
Service was excellent "Kiwi" waiter excelled
Food tasted great fish and chips
The mai tais were watery and not that good for my taste, so drink beer
Don't go here for gluten-free because there is nothing available but a real bad tasting dessert at lunchtime
Great service and food. A beautiful view if you can snag an outdoor table. A lot of gluten free options and the menu is very clearly marked. Nestled in the resort, it's a must visit if you're staying on property at thr Hyatt.
(the line is worth it!) Very very good food, I got the blackened Mahi Mahi plate. The rice, potatoes, and coleslaw went well with the fish!! The fries weren’t the best, just kinda standard, so I def recommend getting the rice and potatoes instead. Basically everything on the menu that isn’t fried or in a sandwich is celiac-friendly. My fiancé with celiac got the chicken plate with rice and potatoes and he didn’t have any cross-contamination sickness afterwards! Yay
Incredible poke!!! Huge portions. So many options. Gluten free options. Friendly staff. They had ube lemonade and art made by locals for sale. Will definitely come back again!
Had the best dinners here on our trip! The macadamia nut crusted mahi mahi was the best! Highly recommend. They are so good about food allergies here! They are informed and take them seriously!
This was a great place to eat. I have celiac disease they were able to accommodate me by changing around some of the dishes to accommodate my needs and I appreciated that greatly. I would highly recommend for anyone that has celiac disease. The food was tremendous
wonderful little restaurant with amazing ocean views. wonderful gluten free (sensitive) pancakes. Large portions and very friendly staff. Will definitely be going back there for breakfast.
Food: excellent (my husband has Celiac and gluten free options were clearly labeled on the menu, the information about cross-contamination was known by our waiter, and waiter was very willing to check into any possible unknowns for drink ingredients, etc!)
Service: excellent (our waiter was amazing, very friendly/personable, and the whole team always kept the water glasses full!)
Location: excellent (it's a restaurant on the ocean with ocean views from most tables, what's not to love!)
Drinks: excellent (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic
We had the fish tacos. They are gluten free without modification. They were awesome. You get two on an order and that was a nice portion. We went for lunch. The restaurant was clean, roomy, and the staff was very friendly and helpful when I asked questions about cross contamination. Definitely worth a visit.
AMAZING!!! The poke here is incredible! Come early as I hear they sell out. I would come back again and again. I'd love to try their other items as well.
They were knowledgeable about what was gluten free and very helpful. Their slaw is to die for as well.
I called to confirm there were gluten free/dairy free options and was told yes there was a whole menu. Great! It also showed up on the GF app, so when we were seated i was very disappointed that at first glance there was very little that seemed to actually be GF/DF. Honestly I was ready to leave, I didn't want plain white rice and some protein with no sauce or flavor. Thankfully the manager was very helpful and went over all the options we had, and was very patient. Curry was not on my mind for dinner, but it was SO good! So was the pork loin. Even though I couldn't have the regular side, the sauce was amazing, and they were very accommodating with options. The drinks and wine were stellar. Honestly I would come back every time for the poke. The avocado sauce was insane with the ahi. Thank you for being much more accommodating than first appearance of your allergy menu.

I made a reservation for 6pm on my honeymoon.
◯Meat
For my main dish, I chose Porterhouse steak.
During my stay, I went to another famous steak restaurant, and the meat at Ruth's was not only delicious, but the seasoning was relatively well-seasoned, and I could feel the restaurant's commitment to it.
◯Service
The inside of the store has a calm atmosphere and a special feeling.
We prepared a plate to celebrate our honeymoon.
A separate gluten-free menu was available. It is also recommended for people with wheat allergies.
This place is located upstairs with no views of the ocean. Still nice though. They had some good gluten free options which was nice. Stairs and elevator are available. The street side stairs are slippery when wet. Dry rear stairs are available as well
It was worth the hype. Tried the spicy and garlic shrimp; both are gluten-free. We cleaned our plates and licked our fingers! Delicious! Do be aware seating and parking is limited. Lots of other food trucks arouns
Reservations were recommended but we had no wait, arriving around 4:30pm. The staff was incredibly friendly, drinks and appetizers were served promptly, and every dish ordered was cooked to perfection. One of our party has Celiac disease/wheat allergy and the server was knowledgeable about every item on the menu, making this experience safe for her. Highly recommend.
The atmosphere, sunset, and vibes of this restaurant are definitely positive. However, we found the service and food to be poor. We found a lot of people we talked to when referring us to this restaurant would say, “Oh my gosh the sunset is amazing,” but they never spoke highly of the food and service. We found this to be true, unfortunately. The food was mediocre, we’d been on the island for over a week and were looking forward to this meal, but it was definitely a let down. Also, we were celebrating a milestone birthday while on the island and had ordered a cake from a local bakery that was gluten-free and vegan as the birthday boy has strict allergies. When speaking to the restaurant, they let us know an hour in advance of our reservation that we could ‘under no circumstances’ bring the Birthday cake that was accommodating severe allergies for the birthday boy. We ended up only going once during our trip and again, found management, the service, and food to be average and nothing to rave about.
I explained many times to the waitress that I have I have celiac (gluten free), and also have a potato allergy and I wanted to order the ribs. For the side she recommended the salad since I can't have fries, and I said no croutons since they contain gluten. The ribs were delicious and I will be back for them, but as I was already halfway through eating my salad I noticed two small croutons hidden under some of it. I don't know if they premake the salads and just picked off the croutons or what, but the salad is definitely not celiac safe if that is the level of care you put into making them safe for people with food allergies. We deserve to eat out just like everyone else and just like with any medical condition we are allowed to ask for accommodations.
Great dietary friendly menu, amazing service, and delicious food. I had the omakase which was creative and made me feel like I was in Japan. I also had a whole fish which they were able to make gluten free for me. It was delicious. I’d be a regular here if I lived in Maui.
Celebrated our anniversary here and Roy’s was lovely.
The food is was amazing, as well as the service.
Made reservations, as most places in Honolulu need a reservation to get in and there was a slight wait to our table.
The misoyaki butterfish was succulent and delicious.
The carpaccio, tataki, and poke was refreshing.
They were able to accommodate our dietary needs for gluten free.
Keep room for desserts at the end. They also gave us ice cream at the end for our celebration.
We arrived in a pretty sour mood. My husband broke two toes while we are here so he couldn’t drive. I’m not able to drive at night. We couldn’t find a ride to the restaurant. We ended up being 20 minutes late for our reservation. Our server turned that around. Ashlynn was so incredibly kind and knowledgeable. She had a great energy about her. The food was amazing. I am gluten-free and she was very helpful in determining what I could eat. She totally nailed her wine recommendations. We were in such a great mood by the end of our dinner!
Delicious Shrimp and Charming Vibes at Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood!
For a fantastic fast-casual lunch experience, look no further than Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood! Nestled charmingly amidst the shops in the Hilton Hawaiian Village area, this spot offers a delightful outdoor seating area that's both quaint and inviting.
The star of the show here is definitely the shrimp – and for good reason! We all ordered it, and it was truly amazing. Cooked to perfection, it was flavorful and satisfying. Our shrimp came with a simple yet effective trio of side salad, rice, and corn. While the corn might have been from a can or frozen, it certainly didn't detract from the overall enjoyment of the meal.
What truly impressed us, beyond the delicious food, was their commitment to dietary needs. Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood boasts a dedicated gluten-free menu.
This attention to detail is a huge plus for anyone with dietary restrictions.
Blue Water Shrimp and Seafood is full of charm and delivers on its promise of delicious seafood in a relaxed, friendly setting. It's the perfect spot for a casual and tasty lunch in the heart of the Hilton Hawaiian Village.
We were so impressed with this place. The poke is delicious and it was awesome to have the option for gluten free. We ordered four different options on two visits and all were great but the Hanalei Special was our absolute favorite.
Beautiful beach Cafe with amazing view, friendly service, and great food. Clearly labeled vegan and gluten free food. I got the vegan Moco Loco with fried rice and it was delicious. It was enough for two people. The rice was a touch undercooked. The lava flow smoothie was so good!
Mina’s Fish House was a home run, pricey, but worth every penny. The service was exceptional, food was excellent, and the atmosphere was perfect with Hawaiian ocean views…what could be better!? Mina’s had plenty of gluten free options for me, which was an added surprise and plus. They even had warm bread for me delivered separately with homemade hummus. The octopus was the best I have had to date, the Marlin dip and homemade taro chips were great, and we ordered a whole fish that was perfectly deboned and served table side. To end the evening, Mina’s brought my mother who was celebrating her 80th birthday that night, a complementary dessert which made her day. If you are in Ko Olina, I highly recommend making a reservation at Mina’s. You won’t be disappointed.
Our family of four enjoyed a sunset meal at this wonderful restaurant. We made reservations on a Wednesday evening. The atmosphere was intentional with a nice mix of energy and sophistication. Our server, Braxton, provided thoughtful service being attentive to the gluten sensitivity. We chose the Mixed Grill, Blackened Ahi, Miso Butterfish and Opakapaka. The food was well prepared, plates visually appealing and portions were satisfying. The signature dishes held up to their fame. Pricing set the stage for a celebratory dinner. Certainly, would return when in the area again.
