Prince Street Cafe has been a favorite spot of my sister for as long as she has been a York transplant from Maryland. Her veganism and gluten sensitivity make places like this special - the food is as delicious as it is safe for her, AND they have dishes the rest of our family enjoys with the rest of our various dietary needs.
Only outshining their food is their service. I made a significant mistake when ordering online the day before the aforementioned sister's birthday party, and the staff and manager went way out of their way to make things right. They absolutely did not need to raise to the level of hospitality that they did -- their generosity saved the day!
Love this place. GREAT gluten free options, they can make all their sandwiches on their gluten free bagels. I usually get the Southwest sandwich on the gluten free bagel. Excellent service. It is oftentimes quite crowded because people love it (as they should) which makes it a popular spot, and multiple times I’ve gone with friends and had trouble finding a spot to sit at. But especially as it warms up that will free up the outside seating. All in all, I highly recommend this spot. York needs more places like it.
Byron is incredible! I'm gluten and garlic allergic and he never ceases to amaze me by making my meal superb, as close to the regular menu as possible with beautiful presentation and delicious!! Wow! The short rib, filet and red beet salad are my favorites.
I went here with my daughter. Our beanuccino tasted like whipped cream and only cream flavored with too much syrup. The muffins were okay, but dry. My daughter said hers tasted gluten free (maybe it was and we missed it?). The bagel I got was not toasted much and the cream cheese was on the side. I guess that’s probably fine. Everywhere else I’ve been had it already on and so I couldn’t just eat it in the car like I’d planned. I had to stop and spread cream cheese. First world problem, but here we are.
Overall, it’s a cute place but I don’t think we’d return.
Gather 256 is so much more than a cafe. It is a community hub, a meeting place, a third space for all of York. In addition to wonderful food (with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options), they make the best latte in town, hands down.
There is a second floor that boasts a corner kids' play space, large tables for meetings and other little cozy nooks to work. During the warmer weather, there's an outdoor terrace with a sandpit for the kids.
What's more is that the space is always full of inspiring artwork. If you need a gift, it's a great place to stop -- earrings, pottery, wall art, books. There is even a pay-it-forward wall to donate meals and a little plant propagating area to share plants. How cute is that? They host third Fridays with programming, book clubs and more.
Gather 256 reminds me of the coffee houses of my teenage years -- homey, comfortable, welcoming, a place to work when you need to be alone, a space to connect when you need a friend. We are so lucky to have it here in York!
It is definitely the best coffee shop in town.

While I’ve had great experiences here, I’ve recently found that this location has been an hit or miss. Ordered 2 gluten free Wisconsin Mac n cheeses with grilled chicken and broccoli. Broccoli was raw, chicken was full breast uncut, noodles were hard.
Really nice place, just wish they had an allergen menu for the drinks and pearls. I should avoid dairy and wheat products so I got a juice with coconut jelly. I did ask the guy at the counter if it had dairy in it though just in case to he replied ‘what even is that?’ So I’m really glad I didn’t ask if there was gluten! Might’ve blown his mind haha
A lot of syrups and drinks can contain gluten so I’d really love a menu with said allergy so I wouldn’t have to bother the workers and receive no or wrong information. The drink was fantastic though and I want to keep coming back!
Went late on mother's day and even though they were packed we got fast service and the food did not take too long. Excellent waitress helped point out how to avoid gluten when my brother-in-law said he has a severe allergy. Who knew the seasoning on the steak has flour in it. She did.
Always have great options for people who cannot have gluten. I do recommend keeping it in the oven and extra 5 minutes. Other than that we will be regulars!
I love this iHop. I have celiac disease and always order the gluten friendly pancakes with chocolate chips. They’re sooo good. My husband and siblings love it too. They get the breakfast sandwiches and love them.
If you want a VERY country dining experience, this is your place! It is almost always buzzing with people and families (so if you are anxious is crowds, please be aware). There are not many options for different dietary needs (i.e. gluten-free, low sugar/carb, vegetarian). However, it should be noted that staff are very willing to talk and make suggestions!
The waitress we had only visited the table 4 times, and it was hard to track her down for refills; this is not typical and may have been due to the busy time of day. Over all the experience was a good one!
