Prince Street Cafe has been a favorite spot of my sister for as long as she has been a York transplant from Maryland. Her veganism and gluten sensitivity make places like this special - the food is as delicious as it is safe for her, AND they have dishes the rest of our family enjoys with the rest of our various dietary needs.
Only outshining their food is their service. I made a significant mistake when ordering online the day before the aforementioned sister's birthday party, and the staff and manager went way out of their way to make things right. They absolutely did not need to raise to the level of hospitality that they did -- their generosity saved the day!

Superb, astounding, magnificent. My husband is Italian- he ordered the spaghetti and meatballs and said it was the best he ever had. I have celiac disease so options are often slim for me, but they had the option to make all of their pastas with substitute gluten free penne or zucchini noodles- so I had many choices. I ordered the bolognese with gluten free penne- it was incredible. They even had gluten free bread and dessert options. We went for our 2 year wedding anniversary so they gave us free dessert, which was so sweet. I got Victor’s Affogato (it was amazing) and my husband got the Tiramisu. My lovely lovely friend Addie was our server, she’s the bomb.com. We highly recommend this place- they made our anniversary extra special.
Me and my family are HUGE Issac’s fans! I am gluten free so this is a place that used to allow me to enjoy eating with my family! We ordered take out from here usually once a week. However, now they changed their gluten free flatbreads to some DISGUSTING cauliflowers ones that are so horrible tasting. I’m so sad. It’s like eating greecy cardboard. I also asked if this was permanent and for all locations and someone said they’d call me back to tell me and they never did which is horrible customer service. I understand needing to accommodate for vegan and dairy free folks, but why not continue to offer the amazing gluten free flatbread too so there’s options for everyone? I’m so disappointed as this has been my favorite restaurant since I was a little kid. Unfortunately, our isaacs days are over :(((
Love this place. GREAT gluten free options, they can make all their sandwiches on their gluten free bagels. I usually get the Southwest sandwich on the gluten free bagel. Excellent service. It is oftentimes quite crowded because people love it (as they should) which makes it a popular spot, and multiple times I’ve gone with friends and had trouble finding a spot to sit at. But especially as it warms up that will free up the outside seating. All in all, I highly recommend this spot. York needs more places like it.
Wonderful food, friendly and accommodating staff. If you choose to eat gluten free this is the place to go - they are understanding and knowledgeable about cross contamination!
This is a great spot we stumbled upon. Someone in our party has a gluten allergy and we loved the fact that the pizzas and sandwiches could substitute for gluten free. There were even some apps that are gluten free……so more than just a salad! The staff is friendly. We’ve been in twice boss and both times the food and service was great! This is a great spot!
I enjoy dining here—the food is always fresh, and they offer many naturally gluten-free options, which is great for my gluten allergy. The staff is accommodating and always ready to answer questions. The seafood is particularly fresh, though I sometimes find the sauces a bit lacking in flavor. Overall, it’s a wonderful spot, and everyone’s taste is different!
Byron is incredible! I'm gluten and garlic allergic and he never ceases to amaze me by making my meal superb, as close to the regular menu as possible with beautiful presentation and delicious!! Wow! The short rib, filet and red beet salad are my favorites.
It was my first time visiting this place and the lady that took my order was very friendly and easy to talk to. She was very kind explaining their options as I'm in a gluten diet. The atmosphere is pleasant. This is my to go place for breakfast in the city.
I went here with my daughter. Our beanuccino tasted like whipped cream and only cream flavored with too much syrup. The muffins were okay, but dry. My daughter said hers tasted gluten free (maybe it was and we missed it?). The bagel I got was not toasted much and the cream cheese was on the side. I guess that’s probably fine. Everywhere else I’ve been had it already on and so I couldn’t just eat it in the car like I’d planned. I had to stop and spread cream cheese. First world problem, but here we are.
Overall, it’s a cute place but I don’t think we’d return.
Gather 256 is so much more than a cafe. It is a community hub, a meeting place, a third space for all of York. In addition to wonderful food (with plenty of gluten-free and vegan options), they make the best latte in town, hands down.
There is a second floor that boasts a corner kids' play space, large tables for meetings and other little cozy nooks to work. During the warmer weather, there's an outdoor terrace with a sandpit for the kids.
What's more is that the space is always full of inspiring artwork. If you need a gift, it's a great place to stop -- earrings, pottery, wall art, books. There is even a pay-it-forward wall to donate meals and a little plant propagating area to share plants. How cute is that? They host third Fridays with programming, book clubs and more.
Gather 256 reminds me of the coffee houses of my teenage years -- homey, comfortable, welcoming, a place to work when you need to be alone, a space to connect when you need a friend. We are so lucky to have it here in York!
It is definitely the best coffee shop in town.

While I’ve had great experiences here, I’ve recently found that this location has been an hit or miss. Ordered 2 gluten free Wisconsin Mac n cheeses with grilled chicken and broccoli. Broccoli was raw, chicken was full breast uncut, noodles were hard.
Came in for lunch on a hot Saturday. The service was excellent; our server had great suggestions on drinks and lunch options. We appreciated the details added on the Gluten-Free menu, and how many options there were. We decided on the Rum Punch (best I've ever had) and Watermelon Mojito, plus an omelet for my husband and the Mediterranean Frittata for me. The flavors were great, and portion sizes were very generous, especially given the reasonable prices. The only drawbacks were that the potatoes served with the omelet were a little overcooked, and we thought it was an interesting choice to use sliced link sausage as a filling in the omelet (we were expecting ground). Not bad, just unexpected. But it was a very satisfying experience and we look forward to a return trip when in town.
Always have great options for people who cannot have gluten. I do recommend keeping it in the oven and extra 5 minutes. Other than that we will be regulars!
I love this iHop. I have celiac disease and always order the gluten friendly pancakes with chocolate chips. They’re sooo good. My husband and siblings love it too. They get the breakfast sandwiches and love them.
