Long ago, I loved this place. They had the best brunches. Then I became allergic to soy and gluten. They have almost no options for those with allergies - they are completely stuck in the past. The menu needs a major overhaul after 20 years and overall the place is run down. It's unfortunate.
My family and I have lived in Evanston for 20 years and I just discovered this place. Outstanding service really fun atmosphere and the food is really fresh and very flavorful.
We ordered several pizzas and a salad and just devoured it.
Highly recommend giving them a try
I suggest pick up not delivery so it’s piping hot
And they have gluten-free
Good setting for large groups. A bit dated but does belong in a college town. Extensive menus with gluten free pizzas. Pizzas are great and not skimpy. Biggest drawbacks are the high prices. Service is polite and efficient.
My go to breakfast/brunch spot when in Evanston. The brisket hash is my favorite and if I’m really hungry a short stack of the gluten free pancakes with berries is a wonderful addition.
Cozy environment, great food and good service. We had a fulfilling lunch which included Tamarind noodles (chicken), chicken robata, salmon rolls, Yakitori Don with Jasmine tea on the side. Food was tasty and the portion size was appropriate. We will go back there again. I don’t believe they serve alcohol but that is fine. Great gluten free options. This is a gem of a place. You will not be disappointed.
Absolutely amazing!!! We celebrated our anniversary at NaKorn, and they made our special occasion spectacularl!! The staff was very attentive and the menu easily accommodated my allergies (gluten and dairy) My husband and I shared several small plates and an entree. All the food was served fresh, quick and SO delicious! The sweet potato croquettes were absolutely my favorite!!! We can't wait to go back !
Best gluten free donut I have had in the 9 years I have been gluten free. A little crispy on the outside but super soft on the inside. Also had the gluten free bread with a breakfast sandwich which was also quite tasty. Coffee was good too! Another morning I had a gf cinnamon roll which was also pretty good.
Suitable for celiacs and they speak Spanish!
A celiac can eat perfectly without gluten. The waiter knew that it is cross contamination, and was very careful. So everything was truly Gluten Free.
The waiters: very friendly, professional and at least one knew how to speak Spanish.
The place is very well located, although you get a little cold after a while because of the air conditioning, like almost all restaurants in the USA.
The only thing, the level of spiciness. I asked for zero spicy and they told me that it wasn't spicy at all, but it was somewhat spicy, they need to learn that in Spain zero spicy is zero, not a little bit. But hey, otherwise the food is good and according to many, the best taco food.
Great service. Our server was so personable and she was on the ball the whole meal. The food was super filling and tasty. So many delicious sauces and gluten free options.
We had a great birthday lunch at Bat 17. The sunny side up burger was awesome and I was able to get a gluten free bun as well. Very kid friendly. Staff was great. Kids loved it.
The gluten-free pizzas were fantastic. Some of the best ones I've ever had, and I eat a lot of pizza!
I wasn't sure I'd like the shrimp jalapeño or spicy honey salami, but both were banging good. 👌
Shout out to our awesome bilingual waitress!
We went to this restaurant because I have celiac and were looking for a place that offered some nutritious gluten-free options . This place looked liked it fit the bill. I ordered the salmon toast. Sadly for the price paid, the quantity was not what we expected. All I received was a single slice of gluten free toast on a bed of mixed greens topped with creamed cheese, cucumber, and a few slices of lox. I left the restaurant hungry .
We recently returned to the area and the first restaurant we wanted to visit was Kabul House. Still has excellent food, HUGE portions, and the renovated space is beautiful! Our waiter was very attentive and food arrived quickly. Kabobs are excellent - our favorite, Kadu, (stewed pumpkin) is now available as an entree. Several options available for gluten free and vegetarian diners. Open for lunch and dinner - ample parking on the side of the building.
Food is ok when you get what you actually ordered. Service is not attentive or knowledgeable. Put wrong food in front of people and told them it was something different, including gluten free. Staff clearly needs much better training. Or perhaps different staff. Was almost pushed out the door 20 min before closing. Less than impressed.
I'm in town for a class. I found this spot 5 minutes away and ordered puck up. They have many GF labeled options on the menu. I ordered the tilapia with mashed potatoes and spinach and the potato salad, both were delicious. On my order I noted celiac and gluten free for all items, even though they are marked. When they brought the order out to me, the gentleman immediately told me that all of the items in my order are GF and precautions were taken to avoid contamination.... that gave them 5 stars in my book! I recommend and would return for sure.
Although the restaurant appears the same, it's clear some menu changes have occurred. They offer a robust gluten free menu. After we ordered, we were brought a sample of their taro fries with an avocado sauce--delicious! We were all happy with our meals. I had the Pad Prik King. It was indeed spicy, but very good. My husband got the Crispy Duck Panang Curry. The Duck was delicious, and I'm often not a fan. So glad to have this quirky Evanston standby reinvigorated!
My server was Audra if I’m not mistaken , she was a sweetheart and gave great recommendations. It was my boyfriend and I first time there and we will definitely be coming back the grapefruit margaritas were delicious & so was the food ! They had gluten free buns & options! I was also able to bring my fur baby ( puppy ) to eat with me in their outside area . Dog friendly & gluten free ☺️
I love that all the bread is sourdough based! I have a gluten sensitivity but I haven’t had any issues w the bread here, especially the the whole wheat seeded.
Excellent, meaty, tender rib tips. Sauce ison the side, which is a plus in my book. Also worth noting, the pound I ordered did not have a lot of cartilage and gristle. This does not come with bread like it many other places, which is a good thing for me since I am gluten-free (GF).
They do not serve french fries, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Instead, they have many different southern sides, such as mac & cheese and sweet potatoes.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and cheery.
The menu clearly highlights items that are gluten-free for anyone with dietary restrictions.
The interior was under construction at the time of writing this review, but they have a handful of picnic bench-style tables so people can eat while their food is fresh. It was also very clean inside despite the remodeling. A big contrast compared to many places I have been to in Chicago’s south and west sides.
The only downside was the price for some items. $6 for a side when you are dining alone for lunch or dinner can be a tad steep.
I am a devoted coffee drinker. In the US, I always order a black americano to test coffee shops. So many times, I received not just a bad coffee, but with a lot of water, no flavour... in summary, a total failure.
It has been wonderful to find this place. Not just the americano coffee has flavour, body, an exact proportion between coffee and water, but also de vibe of the place is wonderful. Lovely place to work or to share a coffee with someone. Super nice staff. Totally recommended!
*They also have pretty good vegan-gluten free paistries!
Great spot for coffee and baked goods! First time visit today. Ordered a latte and gluten free berry scone. Delicious!
Menu board has great smoothie options, plus a case of other healthy goodies. Interior is well designed and super clean. Will be back to visit
All of it, DYNAMITE 🧨! You want a culinary experience, boom, here it is.
The service is top notch. You’ll be greeted so warmly.
The French restaurant with a Mediterranean flare to it. It’s beautiful. It’s simple. It’s approachable. It’s delicious and it’ll impress you.
I have so many good words to say about our time here. I was nervous about dairy-free and gluten-free options for me. It wasn’t a bother to them. They assured me that they have a separate “free from gluten” kitchen area. All was good.
Get anything, it’s all good. My recommendations though are under the Mediterranean specialties- the vegetables with cous cous (but they made it with quinoa for me) and please go with the chocolate mousse. Unbelievable.
Also, best espresso martini I’ve ever had.
Enjoy.
This is a surprise alternative for eating out gluten-free.(Meals are made with corn tortillas. But they don't have gluten-free bread.) The food is yummy! And how many different people can come to serve you in a joint this small? A shockingly high number. They have Jarritos to go with the meal, too. I took my teen to brunch for his birthday and he wasn't disappointed - teen boys can eat a lot, and he was stuffed. An enjoyable experience.
Of course Gigio’s has long been a favorite for lunch with our office being just down the street. The quality, price, and speed are all top notch.
I recently tried the gluten free crust pizza though and it turned out great, the crust was crispy and I got to have the sausage and pappadew peppers just like the regular pizza by the slice. You have to offer a whole pizza which if you eat the whole thing is beyond filling I’ll try to just have two slices next time and save the other half.
Their online ordering system is direct to the restaurant as well so they aren’t losing out on third-party app fees.
10/10 would recommend!
I have loved this place since it first opened. The owner is always friendly and up to chat if it isn't flooded. He remembers who I am even if I haven't been able to come back for a little while.
The food is also always amazing. Even better-- they have gluten free buns that are delicious! I love the griddle burgers and the hot fudge milkshakes.
If you haven't tried this place what are you doing with your life?
I have celiac disease and the only Chicago pizza place where I can eat with confidence of little or no cross-contamination is Giordano's! The Evanston location on Chicago Ave did not disappoint! Dan, our server, was super nice. He even let me try the sangria before I purchased it. Plus lots of groovy memorabilia too. And lastly, clean & efficient.
I went for an event here. The food was good and they had it all labeled so I could tell what was gluten-free. The drinks came out fast. I look forward to coming back.
Puerto Rican food and spices and olives so interesting. Love the ceviche-- very different than Mexican ceviche. Good sized portions, gluten free and vegan options. Imaginative cocktails. Art is beautiful -- great addition to the international options of Howard Streets Restaurant Row.
