Best Ethiopian Restaurant in the Bay Area hands down!!!
Fresh ingredients, Great food, wonderful service and I love the decor! If you are a meat lover, vegetarian, vegan or gluten free like me you wouldn’t be disappointed if you choose this authentic Ethiopian restaurant! The friendly owner makes it more inviting and comfortable! I don’t live in the Bay Area but every time I go back the food is consistently delicious. The place is great for all people, couple, friends, families, officemates. It's just so great you got try it.
Smokehouse is the best classic burger in the Bay. They also have delicious milkshakes, and their meat is now halal!! My friend is dairy and gluten free and they have a gluten free bun option and a dairy-free option for the shake. 10/10!
I’m so happy i found this place the other day! I have Celiac disease so it’s hard to find places I can eat. I’ve been getting their carnitas tacos and rice. Delicious!
Really nice people and delicious food. The coffee comes in a cute large mug. They were able to make the California Benedict for me without diary or gluten. Not so great area of town, but very comfortable inside
Cafe Tibet is in my top 5 restaurants in the East Bay. I love their Ngoe-thuk pan friend sweet potato noodles with tofu and vegetables, which tastes so delicious and the portion so generous it makes me supremely happy! With their Himalayan seasonings, vegetables choices and take on fried rice, noodles, soups, and organic veggie dishes make unique and some of the healthiest Asian food around.
I am gluten free so I can't eat the Momos (Tibetan dumplings), but every person I have brought to Cafe Tibet orders them and says they are scrumptious.
There is an influence of Indian cuisine in some of the dishes and appetizers and their macrobiotic plates are also generously portioned and super tasty.
No boring, bland vegetarian food here.
I have been eating at Cafe Tibet for 6 years and the change to vegan was an enviromental choice on the part of the relative who inherited the restaurant from his Aunt who retired, but it hasn't effected the yumminess of their offerings.
I have spent the past 3 years between NYC, LA, SF and the East Bay and there is a bit of a foodie revolution going on in the later, surpassing everywhere else. I read a list recently that put Oakland as number one on a list as best city to eat out nationally. I am lumping all of the East Bay into that category, but I would agree, Oakland, Berkeley and Albany have it going on.
It's probably the influence of Berkeley's Chez Panisse which started the whole farm to table revolution using quality ingredients to make delicious healthy food. In any case Cafe Tibet is part of that community worth keeping on your Best of the Bay list.
Wow. Truly great service, and great food. Really surprised in a good way. I'd given up on any expectation of friendly or helpful service in Berkeley. But this place was a very pleasant surprise. I was dealing with some temporary dietary restrictions and didn't realize the dish I ordered used an ingredient I couldn't have until after I had a few bites. The manager (?) Keith not only offered to substitute, but even agreed to try my fantastic idea of using french fries instead of the macaroni. Holy hell, who does that? The best part is that he was incredibly nice through it all. We were all amazed.
I just finished the rest of my fries and cheese, and I really hope they add fries as a gluten free option to pasta to their menu because it is delicious.
I will definitely be returning.
Great place. Gluten free options. Good communication and very polite. The schedule may change but the food is delicious. If it is late and there's a lock down they will have your food while you stay safe. Great taste and great service over the many years in Berkeley!
Stumbled upon this place while a friend was in a meeting. Wonderful service, friendly staff & food was yummy! Great if you’re gluten/dairy free - thanks!
It's always a good day when you can get some Slivers. The green sauce is of course amazeballs, a must-get every time you buy a pizza. I feel like their prices are reasonable for what you get, and they almost always add in a couple of free extra slices. My favorite is the yukon potato and corn pizza, but the mushroom pizza is a close second.
I also love love love the fact that their gluten-free and dairy-free pizzas are the same price as their normal pizzas, you don't see that in other restaurants.
Rarely ever a line and when there is it moves very quickly. Service is always fast and easy.
Mely made my birthday experience FUN! She is very outgoing, friendly and even assisted my friend with a gluten allergy. The chef happened to pop out and to let Mely know the " green curry mussels were 86'ed" as in sold out LOL. He was very kind and he even assisted with being super accommodating to my friends Gluten diet.
We stayed till close and they let us do pur thing...the food was amazing & drinks we're even better..
Thank you Mely!!!
We’ve been here twice and the food is mouth watering!
Very gluten free friendly as well as the seasoning of the food, and the combinations is really delicious.
I rarely leave reviews but this place deserves it.
The short rib, chicken and steak are wait weve tried so far
Five members of my family went there late on a Monday night. The staff was very welcoming despite us showing up just an hour before closing time and the room was wonderfully quite. I had been to Chez Panisse Cafe 5 days before, and I preferred the dishes at Mint Leaf, although that's an apples and oranges comparison. My/our favorites at Mint Leaf were eggplant&tofu clay pot, green papaya salad with prawns, and if you eat mammal, sizzling shaking beef. I thought their beef combo phô, was good but not as exceptional as the previous dishes. They were very attentive & accommodating to the gluten intolerant member of our party
