Fat bikers guide to fine dining
A lovely little pub with a great little authentic country bar. Be great if you could get serverd a drink at it . But to be fair I didn't wait that long when you compair it to the time waited for our lunch.. well over an hour. When it finally did arrive one snitty was missing the toppings and considering it was the gluten free crumbing it really needed something to cover the incredible ummmm 'texture' shall we say. You know that texture you get from a quality microwaved snitty from mcCain? My tbone came out cooked perfectly rare as ordered which was nice but please remember steak needs seasoning before going on the grill. And the veg, how do you boil carrots in water till they are dry ? Freezer burn perhaps? Some other complaints worth mentioning were the broccoli smelling slightly of fish, tastless gravy and mash that was poorly well......mashed. having said all this it's good to see a family owned local pub doing all day dining and catering for those with gluten intolerance (and let's face it , gluten free food sux)
A great meal, enjoyed by everyone - fantastic gluten free options for coeliacs. Friendly service by all staff! Thank you very much for a lovely evening!
My friend and I visited with my puppy on a Saturday evening to get some food and drinks. We had a plenty of space outside for Billy and the staff pointed out there was a water bowl for him if he was thirsty (i had brought his water anyway).
The gluten free burger was delicious and there was a wide selection of burgers available.
Can recommend!
Had an amazing lunch here this weekend, with some of the best customer service I have ever received. We arrived dripping wet after being unexpectedly caught in rain showers on our bikes, and must have looked like drowned rats - but not an eyebrow was raised. In fact, the owner went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and taken care of. The food was excellent, with our diverse vegetarian, gluten free and allergy needs taken care of. The asparagus risotto in particular was beautiful, an incredible amount of flavour. I enjoyed the half glasses of wine which enabled me to try more delicious options! I canβt wait to return.

We are West Aussies who came to SA to experience the AFL Gather Round. The Lobethal Hotel staff were very welcoming and accommodating. We chose to watch the Dockers game in the hotel as we missed out on tickets at Barosa Park. The service and help was fantastic. Great menu and wine choice. The gluten free burgers were excellent. Thank you, Lobethal Hotel.

absolutely appalling service. rude staff.
went in for lunch for fish and chips and my partner accidentally forgot to ask for it to be gluten free. my partner saw (GF) next to it and assumed it came gluten free. honest mistake. I notice itβs not and I go up and just ask if we asked for it to be GF. the waiter then comes back at me saying he didnβt ask for it gluten free in a very rude manner. mind you i didnβt order it so please politely stay in ur place, we are simply just asking as i canβt have gluten. so i said no worries and apologised for our mistake on our behalf. the second even ruder waiter comes out and starts getting worked up about how we didnβt ask for it to be prepared that way. sheβs like snapping her fingers around. honestly very embarrassing for her as we already said we were happy to pay. i said itβs honestly fine weβre happy to pay as we acknowledged it was our mistake. she brings out my food half the fish is stripped from my plate and the chips are basically raw. she also had a foul attitude. itβs kinda rich to charge extra if you canβt even cook chips correctly. or ur going to remove half the food. anyway the fish was absolutely disgusting. i couldnβt bring myself to even eat it. I felt like the chips were made like that out of spite, because making another plate that weβre paying for was obviously too hard.
Had lunch here a few times. Big open dining area, but wasn't too noisy and not a long wait. Food has been lovely each time and they catered well to dietary requirements. They made a gluten and dairy free lasagne, which is hard to find. It was delicious. Big serves and diverse menu. Lovely spot to catch up with fr

Stopped overnight on the way from Adelaide. Friendly and helpful owners and friendly locals too. The publican and his mate are both great guitar players! Sunday night pizzas very tasty and they had gluten free base available. The room was clean and tidy. The price very affordable. Would definitely stay there again.

Myself and my partner had our wedding there last year, and we were very glad we booked there.
The staff were very obliging about some of the last minutes changes we had (last minute changes to RSVPs).
They seem to have a great working relationship with It's a Celebration who we hired to do our decor.
Both businesses were lovely to work with and made sure things were taken care of and didn't get left alone as 'someone else's responsibility'.
They offered a free room for the night for the bride and groom. (We were impressed with our room. Lots of space! And a spa bath!).
We were able to fit 120 guests there and had enough room to dance for a first waltz (if we'd had a live band or guests had been keen to dance as well, we would perhaps have struggled, but it ended up being good for us).
Their new sound system and projector was really straight forward to plug into and use. Everyone could see and hear what we wanted to show at the wedding. No crackles or anything. Only issue was to do with our family members who weren't always keen to hold the mic close enough to their mouths for the speeches. :-p
We also found it was relatively easy for our camera-man to take footage - plenty of power-points to plug into for power.
Southgate were able to help accommodate for myself and a handful of other guests who had gluten-free dietary requirements.
The alternating meals menu option that we selected we felt was good value and worked well. No-one complained that they missed out or that they couldn't eat their meals.
Also felt that the kids menu options were very good - kept the kids happy. Some of the older kids who were given an adults meal said they would have preferred the kids meal, so it must have been good. :)
Having chosen the alternating menu option where numbers of meals were already known ahead of time meant that meals were served in a very timely fashion.
I really liked the soups and the meals that we selected - they tasted great.
My mother-in-law was disappointed about dessert though. She had invested a lot of time and effort into the cakes, and had wanted to make sure our guests had an ample serving of dessert. She felt the portions that they served were far too small. She was happy though that South-gate themselves procured the whipped cream and strawberries for us that we wanted included with our cake for dessert on the side.
Oh, and they also offered the bride and groom a free breakfast for the morning after as well, which was lovely.
We're glad that we had our wedding reception at Best Western Southgate Motel and are very pleased with the level of service they gave.
A delicious lunch of a gluten free burger. Excellent service. The hotel has dedicated cooking facilities to accommodate both allergy and intolerance to gluten, and ascertained the need.
Kindly fed us with just a few minutes before closing. The menu was great, good gluten free, veg options. The dining area was lovely. It's a very tidy and warm space with outdoor dining an option as well. Service was fantastic from both gentlemen who served us. Sirloin steak was amazing, as was the bacon and onion chutney that came with it. Side of veg was also delicious, as was the lamb salad and seafood spaghetti.
Very welcoming, well priced, and with delicious food. It's definitely worth visiting for a meal or considering for your next event.
Why not tie it in with a trip to the beautiful regal theatre and support a great local cinema as well. Would highly recommend and return soon
First of all, I never give 5 stars, but lets discuss the Prince Albert Hotel in Gawler;
1. The food. Really good, chefs provided prompt service and gave us a decent portion of food (view my salt and pepper main squid below $21 GF) for the price we paid. Meal was warm, properly cooked and well presented.
2. Service, we were served by a young lady today that seemed inexperienced. We askes to confirm if the chips were gluten free when I ordered my GF Salt and pepper squid as it said chips were apart of it. Couldn't get an answer. As well as other gaps in confirming our meals.
3. Facilities, we didn't use the bathrooms, but the tables were clean, and stacked with what we needed for a meal.

My husband and I head to this pub regularly and it is fantastic! As a coeliac person, they cater so well (even having a separate fryer for chippies). The staff are very kind and we love it here.
We stayed in sea view balcony rooms and dinner in Sarin restaurant with breakfast in Bayside. Lovely friendly helpful staff. Food was awesome. Helped put with choosing Gluten free options too.

My wife and I stayed here for one night. The room was clean and tidy and it had a king-size bed and well stocked mini bar and snacks. We also had dinner in the bistro and it was great. It was a very busy night, but our meals came out in a timely manner. There are plenty choices for vegetarians and gluten free options as well. The servings are a good size but we still managed to share a dessert. The room and meal were very well priced. We would be more than happy to visit again.
Interesting and attractive pub, welcoming friendly, good value for money. I had a coeliac friendly caeser salad, it was possibly the tastiest salad I've ever had - ate it all! So good in fact that we're going back with friends tomorrow. Thank you!

We were travelling from Central West NSW to McLaren Vale and had some terrible food experiences on the way. However, at the Golden Grain in Pinnaroo we were absolutely blown away by the chicken salad and grilled fish, which was both a healthy option for me and gluten free for my partner. In this pretty spot in a quaint town this was an absolute delight and exactly what we needed. I would highly recommend as a pit stop.
I had my birthday lunch there today with a group of 14 and could not be happier with the service! This is the second birthday we've had there in a month and the staff have gone above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience. The food is amazing with plenty of gluten free options, and big portion sizes. Best customer service experience I've ever had, I'll definitely be going back!
UPDATE: Tamra is great. She even sorted me with some other gluten free, veganish meal options. Will try them all on my next visit.
Have stayed in a range of rooms since my original post. If mobility is an issue, please make a note at time of booking. This is a heritage hotel in one part, and gorgeous but the stairs to the top floor might be a bit much. I loved it. There was a guest balcony with a beautiful ocean view.

So convenient. Rooms are comfortably appointed, the staff are great and the restaurant is next level .
Even if you aren't vegan, can I recommend you try the roasted cauliflower? 11 out of 10!

Food is delicious, gluten-free options. I look forward to seeing the outcome of their renovations occurring at the moment.
Update: Food is still delicious, and after a year of Reno's, it looks pretty much the same, lol. I liked the layout before, so I'm not unhappy with that. Perhaps they got more tables in.. anywho, nice.

Very pleased with our meals. Staff were extremely accommodating for a very sensitive coeliac. π
Had dinner in the restaurant and the service was excellent the waitress was very helpful for my wife as she is a sensitive Coeliac. Great food, wine and atmosphere. Highly recommend this hotel.
The best gluten free menu available upon request! I had the gf chicken snitty and it was massive! the chef came out to check everything was okay and she was lovely! The bar staff and owner were very kind and helped us with all our needs! We will certainly be back! Not to mention they have a free 8ball table!
Staff were friendly but the food was awful. After waiting 45minutes our food came out roast of the day, meat very fatty and tough and no real flavour. Ordered the gluten free Thai red curry seems it had been frozen and then reheated in the microwave served lukewarm to cold in some parts. Truly awful.
