First time eating here and all of the food was delicious! I also have a gluten allergy and they took extra precautions to ensure I had a safe meal. Will be eating here again!
Food was delicious. 9/10. My personal favorite dishes included green curry and praham long song. Everyone we talked to recommended the red noodles, so definitely try those as well! I got the foco roasted coconut juice as a drink which was nice but wouldn’t re-order. To be truthful, I only got it because it had boba. The sticky mango rice as dessert was DELICIOUSSSS and a fun cultural food to try. The cream cheese wontons were exquisite. Basic, but delicious. Almost everything here can be made vegetarian and gluten free which is great if someone has dietary restrictions. Overall would definitely recommend this place, especially with parents in town as it is a little pricey for the college student budget. The service was good except they do this thing where you have a table but must go to the front and order every time and then they bring your food out to you. I was not the biggest fan as someone constantly had to get up to go order food, a drink, etc. and it broke conversation. May just be a personal preference though. My final rating is an 8/10 for the restaurant.
The Globe is the one restaurant I have cravings for consistently. Their tic tac curry is my absolutely favorite! There are gluten free options galore. The staff is always very kind. Don’t sleep on this one if you’re downtown and looking for some flavorful fusion food.
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve gotten anything from Fresh Fin, and I had forgotten how INCREDIBLE the food is. All of their ingredients are super fresh and tasty. I’ve tried their more traditional fish-based bowls, as well as a few of their other options, and have never been disappointed. *One of my favorite things about this place is how accommodating they are to different dietary needs and preferences. Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten Free, watching carbs and/or cals, just about anything you could imagine. If you order online, they also have a section where you can note any allergies down to the specific ingredient in your bowl and their kitchen. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so accessible. Even if it’s not for a specific dietary restriction, the customizability is a huge benefit and means you could eat here daily for months and always have something new to try. I’ve seen some comments about the prices, but the portions you get are beyond reasonable. I’ve had leftovers from the smaller size! Service has always been very quick and friendly in my experience. Just an overall wonderful spot with hearty and healthy foods!
Was on a mission to get spring rolls. Took food home to see “spring rolls” were wrapped with a raw wonton wrapper. I can’t have have gluten and uncooked wonton wrapper can give you food poisoning. No one said they were out of rice paper or offered me a substitution.
Food is excellent! Menu is huge for any option for any person! I have celiacs so I was nervous about what they could do for options for me. They were amazing!!! The server and kitchen are so knowledgeable about cross contamination and what needed to be removed from a roll so it would suit my allergy and if you’re a sauce lover like me, you have many options and will not be disappointed. Between our group we tried 7 different rolls and 4 appetizers. I had the mussels for a GF option and they were delicious. This is a gem for the east side! Thank you so much for the great hospitality! We will be back!
Delicious food! Excellent service, even when I asked about gluten free options. The staff was well aware of allergens and celiac. My only concern was the bathroom was not very clean, but it seemed like it was caused by poor building maintenance more than anything.
I can’t recommend this place. I have given it three chances because people seem to like it. The first time I went, the owner, this blonde woman, was SO unfriendly and rude to me. I had never been there before and she basically yelled at me that they were cash only for pickup and told me to go away. The second time we went for dine-in, my friend is gluten free, she has celiacs. They blonde woman (again) said they could accommodate and the she was given a dish that did have gluten in it and she got sick. Our final time they gave me a dish that has pieces of meat mixed into my tempeh dish. Won’t be going here again.
This is one of my favorite and consistent sushi places in downtown Madison. It's easy to get in and out during the lunch hours and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. Staff are knowledgeable on gluten free options and have GF soy sauce available upon request. Highly recommend.
Recently moved from out of state and took a chance because we were missing Ramen. Umami did not disappoint! From the service, atmosphere to our dishes. I have a gluten allergy which sometimes takes away from the flavor of things. I had the edamame and gluten free ramen. The ramen broth was rich and noodles were thin and delicious!
Went on a Wednesday night around 6:30 and it wasn’t too busy. The service wasn’t the best I’ve ever had but it definitely wasn’t bad by any means. Nice atmosphere- very cozy. But the best part was definitely the food. They have literally the best house salad I’ve ever had in my life! I ordered eggplant parmigiana. It was different than the kind I’ve had before but still absolutely delicious. The eggplant basically melted in my mouth! It also came with a side of spaghetti which was a very pleasant surprise. One of my friends is gluten intolerant and they were very accommodating. I would definitely return!
I decided to get takeout from Tavernakaya because they popped up as a place I could get gluten free fried rice. To make fried rice gluten free, usually the only modification needed is to swap out the traditional soy sauce for gluten free soy sauce, tamari, or coconut aminos. However, after digging into my fried rice, I discovered that their way of making it gluten free was simply to omit any seasoning at all. It was so bland. I ended up heading over to the nearest grocery to grab some tamari to make my leftovers palatable. By saying that you will cater to the gluten free crowd but then just making a dish devoid of any seasoning or character seems like a cop out - might be better just to not offer it at all.
I have traveled all over the country and had Thai food from over 200+ places. Thai food is definitely one of my deep passion. So here it goes.
They have very good gluten free and vegetarian options!
Service: Keng, our young server was simply ON! He had the right knowledge, mannerism, and personality to make our experience very enjoyable.
Ambiance: I wouldn’t call it a “date” quality place, however it had a nice cozy and busy atmosphere.
Food: I ordered three dishes to sample, Basil tempeh dish, Garlic Chicken w broccoli, and Pad Thai w Chicken.
Each dish had a very light but flavourful taste. It’s not overpowering from the start, each bite made you build up to the flavour that kept increasing in intensity.
If you are the type that just “pour” hot sauce onto everything for flavour…you will miss what this place is about.
If you are looking for a great Thai place where you can truly appreciate the taste, quality, and the service, this is the place!
P.S. Thai food will never taste the same as a take out, especially the noodle dishes. If you truly want to experience a restaurant for what they have to offer, dine in please :)
The pho is gluten free and the best in Madison. We have tried them all. I have celiac and have never got glutened here. HOWEVER, you must bring your own tamari soy sauce and gluten free hoisin sauce if you will be adding those to your pho. Even the pho meatballs are gluten free (the owner showed us the packaging ingredients) if you want to order the one with meatballs, which are iffy at other places. We have also safely ordered the spring rolls but again, using our own tamari soy sauce to dip as their soy sauce is not gluten free. They do not mind that you bring in your own bottle, we have been doing it for over five years. The owner and other staff is always welcoming and friendly and makes you feel at home.
The flavor is solid!! I ordered chicken gizzard and mixed beef, and loved both of them. I literally had 3 meals out of each of the dishes. It was a lot of food they gave me. Service are good and you can request gluten free soy sauce if needed.
They offered many gluten free choices and were thoughtful enough to bring out tamari sauce. The staff was super friendly and accommodating throughout the entire experience. The sushi itself was outstanding!

My new favorite Madison restaurant, a fantastic place for sushi and sake. Can’t wait to go back!
My wife is gluten free and they had lots of options and were very attentive about it - even had GF soy sauce. They take it seriously
