Quick service. Food tasted good.
For coeliacs: gluten free options on the menu but when asked was told it was my responsibility if they give me gluten and that they would cook my pasta in the same water as the gluten pasta despite my serious allergy.
Also found it very disappointing that they charge extra for a gluten free base, despite it being a medical need for coeliacs.
An amazing restaurant with truly delicious food!! My partner is gluten-intolerant and around 80% of the menu is gluten free or can be made without using gluten. The burgers are delicious and I would highly recommend the wings as they were our favourite part of the meal!
I am Coeliac so require gluten free. The waitress on arrival said I would need to see the manager who has an iPad. She came back 5-minutes later and said due to the allergy I had to only order at the bar. Still no iPad, she said the manager was coming. 10-minutes later still no manager or iPad. I spoke to the same waitress whose reply was, you have to order at the bar. I replied how can I do that I haven’t seen the manager or said I-pad. She replied she was on her way, 12 minutes later we gave up and left. At no time were we offered any drinks and to add insult to injury there were only 4 other people in the restaurant!! Diabolical service
Lots of Vegan and Glutenfree options. We enjoyed two meals there. The owner was very helpful in recommending food. He even brought us a plate of fried 'calamari' which was more delicious than real calamari.
The salad bowl, terryaki noodles and ratatouille gnocci were great.
Loved the 70's and 80's music in the background. Nice garden too.
My new favourite find! I’ve been looking for a gluten-free Chinese food option since having to go GF in 2021 and I’ve finally found one close to home! I always order chicken fried rice and plain chow mein (both GF!) and the staff are always so understanding and accommodating! As far as I am aware there is not cross-contamination as I have not yet had a reaction and have ordered from them more than 4 times at least!
Update: I recently visited the restaurant for an “eat-in” meal and everyone was so lovely and helpful when it came to gluten-free options! The food was so fresh and delicious - easily the best meal out in the UK I’ve had gluten-free so far! 🥰
Great bar. Wheelchair ♿️ friendly. We didn't eat but all the meals that came out looked amazing, large portions, pub grub. Some good gluten free options that I could have gone for. Went on a Sunday afternoon for the live music by Undercover, they were excellent. Brilliant classic rock. Loved the courtyard which is perfect in nice weather.
Had an amazing finish-off-last-prep-meal for 20 from these guys for a big family get together. All I had to do was heat and assemble really, but every last detail was supplied with simple clear instructions, like cut herbs and salad dressings, homemade foccacia and soft-boiled eggs to top the kedgeree. Had to accommodate gluten-free and veggie preferences but that didn’t stop it from being a real banquet. Everyone was blown away by the flavours and I nearly took the credit!
Ordered a takeaway. Although the person I first spoke to didn’t seem too sure what gluten was the phone was quickly passed to someone who did. Food was tasty and I will definitely be eating there again.

Oh wow what an experience. We tried all of the sandwiches and cakes and they were just beautiful. I’m coeliac and vegan so finding somewhere that caters for both and creates the most amazing flavours. I’m literally singing their praises from the roof tops. A hidden gem in Ipswich.
Never as a paying customer have I ever been spoken to in such a manner as Shane the restaurant manager did towards me this evening, on the evening of a birthday dinner for my partner!
We called him over to try to be helpful to advise him that our waitress should be advising people if something on the menu changes due to my gluten intolerance. We were told by her that the majority of the menu was already gluten free.
Therefore, to receive skinny fries when I specifically ordered the haddock because I wanted chunky chips without any warning prior seemed to me something the manager should be aware of, so that he could raise it with your waiting staff.
I can not believe how defensive Shane immediately became and not even an apology! He was not only defensive, but attacked me by stating that he thought I was “rather angry over some chips”! It was his attitude with no apology that got my back up, but then his defensiveness and him then telling me in a condescending manner “to not let it spoil my evening, it’s just chips” was just insulting. He kept going on and on, repeating the same defensive stuff, even though I just kept saying okay, okay several times in the hope he would just go away & eventually had to ask him to go. It was clear he was looking to antagonise me! With any customer complaint, an apology should immediately follow, especially when a mistake has be made by the staff! Rude does not describe how this manager conducted himself!
The food: it was ok, not 4 or 5 stars as the haddock was a small portion but tasted very fresh. The chunky chips looked better than they tasted. The desserts were okay but overall the food was not outstanding and we wouldn’t rush back even if you did take Shane out of the equation! I did appreciate the chef providing the white chocolate writing on the plate wishing my partner a HB but it didn’t change the upset caused. We had no drinks so total spent £72.
This experience with Shane’s approach and attitude completely spoiled not only our dinner but the entire evening for us! Had we had more time, as we were going to the theatre, I would’ve left there and then.
An email to higher management after stating that she was shocked to receive a complaint about Shane, who had been a valued member of their team the past 15 years, and concluded with the following: ‘We always strive to give the best customer service and hope in the future you will return to experience our usual high standards. I would be more than happy to assist with this reservation and include a gesture of goodwill.’
If the gesture of goodwill is on par with what she referred to in her reply as my partner receiving a “birthday dessert”, (which was a plate with white chocolate writing on it and 2 tiny miniature meringues with a single strawberry) then even if they offered dark chocolate on a plate saying ‘Sorry’, I don’t think I will be making a special trip from London to find out.
Very family friendly restaurant. Amazing staff. Family run business. Great food always on point always the best Thankyou again. They have a gluten free pasta option which made us love this place even more as it’s very hard to find a place with gluten free pasta so I 100% recommend this place
The service is good here and they manage the food well when serving us as we have allergies. I personally can have Gluten or Dairy and I still manage to have at least 3 options for subs.
Lots of gluten free options but the two dishes I ordered were bland and tasteless with very chewy tough meat.
Expensive & cash only too.
Unlikely to go back or recommend.
Have previously been to Mariners and it was an amazing experience. They catered well for gluten free (Coeliac Disease). Now, much to my great sadness, I also have a dairy allergy (actually quite common in those with Coeliac Disease), and they struggled to cater for both gluten and dairy-free sadly. The set menu there was one option for starter, one for the main and none of the desserts - it had to be sourced from their Bistro across the road. Food is delicious, and amazingly presented and staff are courteous and helpful. Just not great at catering for all dietary requirements. Please do better - this isn't a choice and I'm still a foodie and like to enjoy good food!
Excellent Chinese takeaway in Ipswich was able to cater to gluten free, nut free, vegan and vegetarian people in my family. Got the meal for 4. Sesame prawn toast was very crispy and juicy. King prawns and egg fried rice was very good. Enjoyed the free prawn crackers! New chef is great!!
Great guys, fresh food and reasonable prices. Been going there for years. If you're gluten intolerant, they'll even cook your chips in a separate fryer.
