Visited Coffee Tales in the Jewellery Quarter yesterday while visiting Birmingham. We had the gluten free hazelnut cake and a jacket potato with cheese and beans. We have been in the UK for 3 weeks now and this was the best jacket potato I have had since visiting! SOO good! The gluten free hazelnut cake was amazing, I really liked the Nutella frosting! Plus the portions are huge, definitely good value for your money!
Disclaimer I didn't eat here, I'm coeliac and the restaurant were completely transparent and said although items were marked GF they use the same utensils and wouldn't be suitable for those with coeliac. It's a shame as the food looked amazing. Just be sure to ask about cross contamination etc, if you're intolerant and not that sensitive or can have trace amounts of gluten it's prob fine though
What a lovely restaurant. Met friends in town for lunch. Had a great meal and they catered well for our coeliac gluten free friend. Good selection of wines to accompany our 3 course lunch. Would highly recommend the specials.
Having heard great things about Trentina, we were really excited to try it- unfortunately we can only judge on our own experience, and it was poor.
For starters we ordered the Cornish sardines, puntarelle, and salami. The sardines were the nicest part of the meal, the salami was good, and the puntarelle was disappointing- they’ve not really found an interesting way to serve it, and the dressing doesn’t match the bitterness enough.
For the mains, we ordered the Devon crab spaghetti, and a gluten free lamb matlagliati. The gluten free pasta was of a decent standard, however unfortunately the sauce was far too liquidy, and therefore seriously lacked taste. The crab spaghetti was cooked well, slightly al dente, however there was next to no flavour at all. As we were paying, we actually noticed the table next to us send the same dish back, claiming it normally doesn’t taste so bland. Having not been before, I wasn’t to know though.
Perhaps it was an off night for the chefs at Trentina, however we have no reference point as it was our first time, and we left disappointed.
We looked for somewhere to have lunch today whilst in the jewellery quarter and the reviews were good. Service was excellent from everyone we encountered especially Kelly, our server. I was a little emotional when I arrived and she was a sweetheart going above and beyond one her approach to me.
Good menu and good gluten free choices. I had the pork belly (small plate) which was so delicious and no fat with fries and my husband had the Schnitzel Bagel with fries. Excellent quality, taste and service. We had a cranberry juice and a beer and the bill came to around £46.
Toilets very clean and service excellent. The interior is also beautiful. Will definitely be back.
Came across this delightful cafe while visiting Birmingham Jewellry Quarter. We had the Harira soup, flatbread and a drink. Both were delicious. They catered for ny dairy free and my husbands gluten free diet. Will definitely recommend this cafe.
Little Italian restaurant with a great location next to St Paul Square at just a few mins away from the busy City Centre.
As an Italian I can say the food tastes authentic, furthermore the portions are good sizes and well presented.
The menu also presents plenty of Gluten Free and Vegan options and as stated by the owner, the recipes are completely customizable to meet dietary requirements and taste preferences.
The atmosphere is lovely with the soft light, making it a perfect romantic dinner experience if you would.
The price is fair considering all the above.
100% recommended, I have been there three times and I definitely will come back!
Avoid if Gluten Intolerant.
The menu does not contain any indication or options for people who dine gluten-free unfortunately. They do not serve gluten-free pasta for example, and most of the menu items are not gluten-free or cannot be adjusted to be gluten-free.
We raised these concerns and asked to settle the bill for drinks and leave, the restaurant gracefully waived our bill.
Unfortunately although the menu states that there are gluten free items on the menu, the owner let me know they can’t guarantee any of the food is coeliac friendly. (Double unfortunate as I had eaten there before not knowing this) I would advise removing the gf signifiers from the menu. Serving staff are wonderfully friendly though and nice choice of drinks!
Absolutely amazing seafood menu, exactly what you'd expect from the Wilderness team, delicious fish based madness. They made a special effort to cater to my gluten free husband and he didn't miss out on anything. Don't be spooked by sharing a table with strangers, it's a really enjoyable friendly experience. Most importantly the sea buckthorn punch is the best drink I've ever had and if you don't try it you're missing out! The gimlet was a close second and I don't even like gin. A wonderful experience as always, thank you ADC!
