McHugh's is a lovely tea room with caring staff. The lunch menu offers quiches, soups, sandwiches and salads. There are a few gluten-free options.
In addition to cakes, lemon bars and delicious brownies, there are two scone choices daily, served with butter and jam. Enjoy your scones by adding their in-house lemon curd!
The Afternoon Tea (available all day, it does require reservations) is a special experience with scones, finger sandwiches and desserts! Special themed teas are offered in months with events, like Valentine's, Hanukkah and Christmas. The tea menu is exceptional with dozens of organic tea choices, including white, green, matcha, black and herbals. Organic loose tea is available to brew at home.
As much as I’ve enjoyed eating here and the atmosphere, I have a complaint. I ordered a gluten free cheese pizza. All of their pizzas cost $18 even if you opt for just cheese and red sauce. That is to say, you can order a pizza w meat and veggies, pizzas w many different veggies and meat, with veggies, spices(oregano), rocket (arugula)…All of these pizzas cost $18 and most come w 3-6 toppings (including pepperoni and sausage, in fact you can add sausage to the fungi pizza for no extra cost) except the cheese pizza which is just cheese. I asked our server for oregano(which is standard on some pizzas) and rocket (arugula, also standard on some) and I was charged $1 for oregano and $2 for rocket. I also paid $4 extra for gluten, which I’m accustomed to paying extra for and it was stated on the menu. What I didn’t expect was to be up charged $3 dollars for ingredients that comes on their pizzas to begin with. I also asked for less cheese so there’s that too. My small pizza came out to cost 💲26.00 which I find absurd. I hope ER takes this pricing into consideration in the future. I expect to order a spice and some lettuce on my pizza and not be up charged when most of their pizzas include this for $18. Also, my husband had the salmon, which was delicious, but it looked to be 5oz and was served w 2 asparagus spears and a half cup of capellini. Actually looked like a child’s plate and we aren’t large people!!
The ‘401 Table and Tap
“Airy, informal gathering place with indoor & outdoor areas, dispensing cocktails, wine & bar snacks.”
Here’s what I ordered ⬇️:
🔶 BAKED GOAT CHEESE.
Topped with your choice of homemade bacon jam or crumbled candied walnuts and dried apricots and served with a toasted baguette. $14
🔷 PARMESAN-CRUSTED RAINBOW TROUT. Crispy, pan-seared rainbow trout served with sweet chili-glazed Brussels sprouts and sun-dried tomato-lemon pasta. $24 🤔 I prefer a little more seasoning on my fish and pasta but these were still good.
Here’s what I thought 💭:

Reco by a friend, we're so glad we discovered this place! Vegetarian Cashew Delight (savory stir-fried wheat gluten, sugar snap peas, baby bok choy, Brussels sprouts, onions, bell peppers and fingerling potatoes with a garlic-soy glaze) was scrumptious; the garlic-soy glaze really pushed it over the edge from good to great! As well as the Lemon Grass Pizza (thin-crust pizza topped with savory chicken, Thai Tom Yum spices, fresh herbs, mushroom, tomato and mozzarella). BUT. The final flavors of the meal - Ginger Creme Brûlée (rich custard with a hint of ginger and a crispy burnt sugar crust, topped with fresh berries and a vanilla tuille) - were the most delightful: the sharp bite of ginger contrasted with the mellow creaminess of the custard and brittle burnt sugar on top sent us on our way very happily. Gorgeous decor, including unique and beautiful pinprick tin booth frames. Only downside was very slow service, which wouldn't have bothered us if we hadn't been on a tight timeline. Overall, would definitely enjoy coming back for more!
Black Bean tostada and tropical juices are delicious!!
