Like this place very much. We tend to visit each time we are in the area. Great selection of vegetarian items, gluten free bakery options, as well as good breakfast and lunch choices.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Urban Forest Bistro in Duncan, BC, and I couldn't be more impressed. As someone with dietary restrictions—I'm lactose intolerant—it’s often tricky to find places where I can eat without worrying about hidden ingredients. Urban Forest Bistro, however, is a breath of fresh air.
The owner, who was both friendly and professional, took the time to help me select a muffin, a lemon blueberry vegan gluten-free muffin, and it was absolutely delicious—so good, in fact, that I ate it before even thinking about snapping a photo!
What I love about this bistro is its dedication to creating a welcoming space for everyone, regardless of dietary needs. The menu is full of options that are sensitive to food allergies and intolerances, which means I can dine worry-free. It's clear that the owner put thought into creating a place where people could enjoy delicious food and feel good afterward.
Even my boyfriend, who doesn’t have any dietary restrictions, gave the muffin a big thumbs up! If you're in the area and looking for a spot with fresh, allergen-friendly options, I highly recommend a visit to Urban Forest Bistro. It’s a rare gem where everyone can feel comfortable, enjoy great food, and leave happy!
BEST. BURGERS. EVER. PERIOD.
Okay, okay. Some context- I am a huge fan of out-of-the-ordinary burgers, as that’s pretty well how I make them at home. All the toppings, all the flavours- as messy as possible. I am a regular at Bin4 because it’s one place I know I can always get something different every time. But I hate to say it, this place is like Bin4 on steroids. MASSIVE burgers with such unique flavours you would never expect. Pineapple jam?? Thai basil mayo?? Are you kidding me??? Not to mention, the best gluten free buns I’ve ever had.
I told my boyfriend next time we go to the island, we’re driving all the way to Duncan just for these burgers. So dang good.
PS, this review is well overdue, I visited a few weeks ago while visiting town. So happy I found this place. Service is phenomenal too. You can tell they really care about what they do.
The healthy blizzards are the best. I love the Nanaimo bar and almond butter cup ones. I also love the bullet lattes. The staff are amazing and it's a very cute restaurant. Prices are great for all organic gluten free food.
I'm celiac and was wondering if the wait out the door was worth it. It was a market day and I've heard alot about this place. I was happy to learn that most of their items are already gluten free and they have a gf fryer! WELL worth the wait
Honestly nothing impressive. The food was okay, not bad but not great. We went because they have gluten free options (including fries), but the food itself was not that great. However, it is a decent option if you are gluten free or celiac and need somewhere to eat in Duncan
I ordered a perfectly created Stealhead burger on a Gluten Free bun( great tasting bun). I had the house salad with herbed oil vinaigrette. Our Waiter, Noah was fabulous. And, I am so thrilled that WS has so many Delicious GF options, wow!❤️
We hired Taco Revolution to "cater" our wedding reception. Our guests all raved about how amazing the food was. I am celiac and the truck is 100% gluten free allowing me to feel completely safe. The truck arrived as scheduled and were set up no problem before we(bride and groom) arrived. Their communication via email prior to the wedding date was efficient and timely with clear concise answers. We added the watermelon and jicama salad to the 4 choices of tacos and it was a delicious addition. Our guests all felt completely fullfilled and even with 75 guests, the service was quick and efficient. We would fully recommend them to anyone for a fun private event.
I really wanted to like this place more, however, I gave 4 stars because my boyfriend who barely touches veggies actually really enjoyed his chicken katsu lunch plate and it is so rare for him to like whatever "heathy" food I'm eating. Unfortunately, my "salmon" (really it's steelhead trout) poke bowl was overwhelmingly saucy (and I LOVE sauce) to the point that I just really couldn't taste the flavours of anything else when I mixed it all together. I think it was a combination of the ponzu, pineapple jam and too many pickled things that made it just really sour and and not tasty.
Sadly, the two things that could have cut some of the overwhelming taste were the spicy mango sauce and avocado. The spicy mango sauce was good but couldn't overpower the other flavours and my avocado was super unripe and inedible.
However, I will say, their presentation was absolutely beautiful, and you can tell they use very high quality, fresh ingredients. I wasn't hopeful of finding many gluten free options on my visit to Duncan, so alas, I am happy to have eaten nonetheless.
I will add, when I ordered over the phone, the girl who answered definitely needs to be taught some customer service skills but I'm assuming she is just very young... She was very short with me and not overly polite. My boyfriend said the same when he went to pick it up.
I'm going to give these guys a second chance and try their burger place tomorrow, because anything is better than Whitespot and it looks dang good.
This restraunt has fantastic servers who are very attentive and friendly. The cooks will accommodate dietary restrictions if a recipe can be altered. I has to have fish batter made without milk and they did... the cooks offered to make a fresh batch of batter without milk! Impressive and much appreciated. They also have a gluten free menu and the food and pricing and fantastic!
Dairy Queen ice cream cake have always been my favourite and I was sad when I was diagnosed celiac that I might not be able to have them anymore… but then I was thrilled to hear that they could custom make a cake if I ordered a couple days in advance that removed the crumb!! Yay! Thanks DQ!!
I went in with a large group to have the lunch buffet, but unfortunately was very limited in my options due to a gluten sensitivity. However! One of the servers came over with a menu and took the time to point out the things that were gluten free or that they could make gluten free with some adjustments. She answered all of my questions and even checked back in about one of the sauces. The food was amazing and the service was great. I will be coming back and bringing my family in the future.
