My friend and I loved this place. I got a cookie and she got the cinnamon roll! You would never know it is gluten free strictly with a taste test. Staff are so nice and accommodating as well!
I am recently gluten free and it is so nice to be able to be able to go somewhere where I could eat everything! I was feeling so discouraged being gluten free.
Partner and I have been coming here for ages, and we don’t even live in KC. It is always a must for us. Great service, great atmosphere, great gluten free options, and excellent food. Often a bit of a wait, but never long. I do miss the calmer vibe of the older days before counter ordering, but I can’t argue with the speed. These folks have it figured out.
We decided to try Blue Bird Bistro on my birthday. We went on a Monday evening and made reservations, however, this particular night no reservations were needed and we were seated right away. We got there at 7:30 and stayed until close, it was so relaxing and we didn't feel rushed. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The ambiance was perfect. The food was a little more bland than I expected but it was still good and hot and fresh. There were plenty of gluten free and dairy free options for me.
The cocktails were great!
Recommend the catfish bites appetizer.
All in all it was a great experience and we will definitely visit again.
This was my first visit to this cafe, and it won't be my last! Stopped by for brunch with my gluten-intolerant friend after a hike and Urban Cafe had so many great options that looked delicious for both of us! We got the Midwest omelette and the truffled mushroom omelette. They arrived relatively quickly and was delicious. On top of that, they did the interior of the place very well; the ambiance was comfortable and the music was great. Great small, local business. Will be visiting again!
Always the best crepes in the state. Sooooo good and gluten free is available for all crepes. I love the French infused atmosphere and the staff. A must visit breakfast brunch spot in the city
Our waitress messed up my order several times. I ordered the crab avocado toast on gluten free bread. The first order arrived without the crab. The second order arrived with crab, but on regular bread. The third attempt was the exact same plate as the second. The fourth attempt was on gf bread, but with scrambled eggs, not the easy over eggs that I had ordered. I took the last one as everybody else in our family was done eating. Our waitress made no attempt to make this right. To top it off, they rang up the wrong ticket and charged our son for a much larger ticket. Our son had to wait in line for 30 minutes to get it fixed. I was very disappointed with First Watch for Mother's Day brunch.
Waiter was extremely friendly and helpful when we had questions. I was so excited to order gluten free pancakes (gluten sensitive)- I’ve never seen them anywhere! They were SO good and I was amazed they didn’t have gluten. It’s not often you find gluten-free food that is fluffy and not dry! If we are ever in the area again we will be stopping by.
Good amount of gluten-free options, including actually-good GF toast (still rare!), and a selection of desserts. The service and atmosphere were lovely. The prices were a bit steep for the type of food and drink offered, but ultimately, it was understandable given the location and likely overhead costs.
My favorite food item was the mushroom-beet toast. Haven't had anything like it before, and I was pleasantly surprised!
We were able to sit outside and if you are worrying about gluten allergy, this restaurant takes great care to keep the prep stations separate to keep from cross contamination.
The food here is absolutely amazing, and the service is wonderful as well! Everything is vegan, and there are a couple of menu items that can be made gluten free, or are already gluten free! It's a great place to go if you want comfort food like burgers or chicken fingers!
This place makes you feel like you've done yourself a favor. With all the salad varieties you could ask for, sandwiches, soups, and tons of vegan and gluten free options, there's really something for everyone. They have a nice little patio area too. The beet salad was amazing!
Got two cakes for my birthday, one regular and one gluten free cake for a party I hosted. Delicious cake and one of the staff members helped me carry my cake to my car. Excellent service, taste, and got it right!
Everything else at McClain's is also amazing.
I could not say enough good stuff about this place!
The vibe is great, the service is amazing, BUT THE FOOD!!!!! It is amazing, and something fun and a little different.
Everything I have had is amazing. They make their own variety of niche flavors of cream cheese that are delicious!!!!
They also have great gluten free options!
I ordered a half MIXED GREENS salad with steak & no cheese. It came out with cheese so I sent it back because I’m literally allergic to gluten & dairy. I came to this restaurant thinking they were mindful. It came back out after my fiancé finished his meal. I was so upset I didn’t eat it. (Not their fault) however I am eating it today & there is no mixed greens just huge pieces of romaine lettuce & there is no grilled asparagus. Pretty disappointing since it was an $18 salad. I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just go ahead & comp it or give a discount if they didn’t have the ingredients to make the salad & messed up my order. I am a people pleaser, hate confrontation, & choke up when I’m upse but They could clearly see I didn’t even touch the salad.
I was told the gluten free things were marked on the menu.. they were not, the only thing they have gluten free is bread, no pancakes. You would think you could get French toast since they have gluten free bread available, can’t get French toast with the gluten free bread because it is dipped in the same batter as regular bread. Altogether definitely a 1 in my book because when I want breakfast as a gluten free person on vacation, I want gluten free pancakes, French toast etc. not simply just toast. I couldn’t be more disappointed.
Love that it has gluten free buns for the sandwiches, there are some soup options that are gluten free and the salad bar has a decent selection, and you can't forget the ice cream. It's clean, the service is nice and the pricing is decent.
Stopped here for my lunch break. Not only is this location super cute but also has fast and friendly service. Drive thru was busy but the inside was cozy, bright and pretty quiet for a Saturday afternoon. Perfect spot to read and enjoy some lunch! Plenty of healthy options to choose from including gluten free. The Mint Chip Energizer tastes EXACTLY like mint chip ice cream, but without the guilt!!! Delicious!! Sesame chicken salad was very fresh and tasty. H2O #5 was wonderfully refreshing during a long work day. This location will definitely be my go to place.
Gram and Dun is my new favorite restaurant! My girlfriend and I went for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised. We went on a Saturday so I ordered the 76ers sushi roll and she ordered a salad with salmon. Both 10/10 meals. Great server... Thanks Derek!! They have a few gluten free options but not many however all such food.
Brisket melt is amazing! Tender beef, cooked perfectly. The sourdough bread it's served on is also fantastic. My only complaint is that they charge $3 more for gluten free bread, which one person in our party ordered. I do understand an upcharge, but $3 seems excessive.
Great breakfast. Lots of Gluten Free options. The lobster omelet was fantastic. My wife had the salmon salad. Food was very fresh. Great service as well.
I had the eggs benedict and it was amazing! I normally can’t have it because most places make the hollandaise sauce using wheat. But the farmhouse makes it gluten free! Amazing!!
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Kansas City! They have a number of vegetarian and gluten free options, and their food is outstanding. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing (love their rooftop seating), and the staff is the best! They even remade my order for free when I forgot to ask for it without cheese (dairy allergy). 10/10 recommended this place!
Chaz on the Plaza is definitely a must try. The atmosphere, service and food were all great quality and is a wonderful experience for that special night, or just a high class evening.
I'll preface this review with a couple of special notes.
First, we attended our reservation at 6PM. While the restaraunt had patrons it certainly wasn't in full swing yet, so there was absolutely no wait for us when it came to practically anything. Definitely a great thing, but your milage may vary.
Secondly, there was some concern about gluten free options, as these aren't labelled on the menu anywhere. I won't leave you in suspense here, Lacey, our server, was an absolute expert on this and was able to ensure that all of our needs here were met without any issue, offering options and modifications to the menu that we would have never guessed. More on that below.
To start, this was out 20th anniversary and I"ve been looking for somewhere with some decent atmosphere in the area that really isn't just drinks at a lounge. Don't get me wrong, KC has some absolutely amazing lounges, but dinner at a space that can provide atmosphere, gluten free options (that aren't just salad and water), and food that is good can be a struggle. On top of that some places can get exhaustively loud.
Chaz on the Plaza met us on every mark. The food, a "Duke" Wellington and a Pan Seared chicken, with the Cheese plate and Truffle Devilled Eggs for apps, were good. Some notes on dietary restrictions in the applicable sections. Cost here is definitely something to prepare for. At an easy average of $30-40+ per plate for a main and everything else around $10+ we saw a decent bill at the end of the night. That said, we certainly plan to enjoy a night there again. The atmosphere was nice. Quiet with live jazz played at a respectible volume that added to the ambiance without feeling like you had to yell over it. Noting that it was our anniversary in our reservation, the team went out of their way to add personal touches and honestly started the night off great.
Food:
Here's what you came for. Honest review, the food was good. I'd give it a 7 out of 10. While the food was good, I don't feel the flavors were bold enough in some cases. The Duke Wellington is not a classic beef wellington, but more of a "roast" than a steak. The Pan seared chicken was reported to be excellent. I will say that there are some combinations and flavors that were unexpected all around from the topping on the potatoes to the use of vinegars in the meals. Overall these were well recieved and added a different complexity that was well enjoyed.
The cost, as noted above, does come in a bit on the higher end so be sure to review the menu before hand.
Drinks:
The Bar is clearly well stocked and proficient. Sampling the Hazy Hayden and the Apple Spiced Martini, I will say there was a clear favorite in the Hayden. A smoked whiskey cocktail, this drink tastes as good as it smells, and the theater with it is definitely enjoyable. The Apple spiced martini was good, but definitely a second to the Hayden. With drinks around $10 at the time of this review, the bar runs on average the same cost you'd find in most places.
Overall a good time and we look forward to coming back!
Outstanding local business on all fronts. The food truly is superior and incredibly reasonable. I have had a full range of items from salads that were plentiful in freshness, variety, and ingredients to the roasted chicken sandwich. The chicken was juicy and moist and dripping with goodness, so many robust flavors! The Pad Thai was great when I was sick and on a gluten free diet, again, full of flavor and ingredients! I have had numerous deliveries over the last several years. Each driver was patient, courteous, pleasant, and on time!!
First here during restaurant week. Food and service were both awesome. Going to add to our rotation of restaurants to go to. Accommodated for gluten free options!
Phenomenal vibes with breakfast options aside from pastries even though their croissants are fire. They even have a few gluten free options. Great coffee drinks and upstairs area to enjoy and sit.
The only time I went to TikiTaco on 39th Street was on July 16, 2022. The vibe at the place is meant to be a chill and laid back Mexican street food joint dishing out the California take on Mexican food, also known as Mexicali-style food. With an upbeat atmosphere, TikiTaco unites their customers together with quality food at its neighborhood taco joint. The storefront at TikiTaco features a walk- up window for takeout orders or when customers want to sit on the patio outside.
The concept for the menu at TikiTaco is quite unique with options for tacos, burritos, bowls, desserts, and other Mexican dishes along with alcoholic beverages served blended or or thin. Some of the menu items at TikiTaco are also inspired by Polynesian cultures of food too. In case customers want to follow dietary or health-related plans, TikiTaco features vegetarian and gluten free menu items. The thing I ordered at TikiTaco was the Thai Chili Pork burrito and I had it with a drink of Horchata. My food at TikiTaco tasted really good, and I would visit again for more of their interesting dishes features on their menu.
Went here for a couples date night and walked away very impressed. The moment you walk in you’re met with an antique style with tons of fun decor, old pieces, and paintings on the wall. The space is small so reservations are important. But the small space makes it feel unique, cozy, and intimate.
Our waitress answered all of our questions, along with providing details of each of the meals we were considering. The wait staff were attentive without being overbearing.
The food was top notch. Our table ordered the grilled shrimp pappardelle, garden burger with no bun, Cobb salad with steak, and rack of lamb. For guests with gluten allergies, the burger with no bun was still delicious. However, the fries are cooked in oil that is used with gluten items as well. The rack of lamb was tender and perfectly cooked with the right amount of seasoning that didn’t overwhelm the savory flavor. The shrimp were well-sized and delicious. Lastly, the salad with steak was great too.
We plan to be back soon to try many other menu items!
Came for a gluten free dinner, waitress was very knowledgeable about dietary restrictions and I was able to eat here with no issue! Food is really good too
Mildred’s is one of my favorite places in the Crossroads for several reasons.
1. It’s a family owned business. That continues to be passed down to future generations.
2. The current owners are young, successful entrepreneurs who pride themselves on taking care of their employees and it is paying off BIG time!. Mildred's take-home pay has always been a living wage, and since 2022 they've been able to provide health insurance and 401k retirement benefits to their full-time employees.
From kcmo.gov/livingwage: "A living wage is the minimum income necessary for workers to meet their basic needs, which include food, housing and other essential needs such as clothing...
"The living wage differs from the minimum wage in that the latter is set by national law and can fail to meet the requirements to have a basic quality of life, leaving the family to rely on government assistance."
3. I am always so impressed with how professional and happy the staff are. They always go out of their way to provide excellent customer service! That is extremely rare these days! I genuinely LOVE going to any Mildred's location because it is so obvious that the employees truly enjoy their jobs! And that, my friends, speaks volumes about who is running the place! 🏆
4.The fact that their food is mouthwatering delicious is just an added bonus! I highly recommend the standard breakfast sandwich on the jalapeño cornbread. The breakfast potatoes are amazing! The biscuits and gravy are the best thing ever! And if you are gluten free, get the breakfast hash because it’s the next best thing to eating the actual breakfast sandwich!
There are so many artist’s events here! The Songwriter’s Sanctuary on 3rd Sundays was wonderful. Also, the chai-der and vegan/gluten free crumble bar was very nice.
This place is so cute and has a really calm vibe! The food and pastries (gluten free options are available) are delicious, the service prompt and friendly. This is true hidden gem of south KC, check it out, you will be so glad you did!
Great atmosphere! Lots of natural light & cute plants.
- Serves Messenger coffee.
- Espresso machine: La Marzocco Linea Classic.
- Food options: Bakery items (including gluten friendly options) and a full menu which looks ideal for brunch.
- Pet friendly; there’s a dog park out front.
- Seating: Efficient seating indoors; although the building is small the seating didn’t feel crowded. There’s lots of outdoor seating too.
I had the Dulce de Leche and Vegan blueberry bar. Very good, I'm glad they offered different milk alternatives and vegan and gluten free food. Definitely coming back.
