Fantastic Indian restaurant! I have gluten dairy and soy allergies and they were very accommodating and knowledgeable of what was safe for me. And it was delicious.

My kids loved the food here. I am gluten free and they were super helpful with my order to make sure I ordered what I can eat. The food and service were awesome and I would highly recommend!
WOW! They have a gluten free menu as well as several vegetarian and vegan options. We ordered the yellow beef curry and the green curry chicken. Both were gluten free and out of this world. So full of flavor and the perfect amount of spice. We will definitely be back.
Zach S was very attentive, helpful and when we questioned items that were gluten free he answered and made suggestions. Was my 1st time there and will be back. Louisville shelbyville roadlocation very nice.
This is my favorite restaurant in Louisville across all categories.
Atmosphere: Many restaurants play jacked up music and I can't wait to leave. As soon as I walk into Shalimar I relax. The Indian sitar accompanied music is so pleasant. Even though this is a popular restaurant I've never had to wait for seating, as seating is abundant. The restaurant is clean. The environment is just so peaceful.
Service - My family and I have eaten here about 40 times. The service has always been attentive without being over-solicitous.
Food - Consistently good every time. We have vegetarians and non-vegetarians in the family. Both are well served. Some of us are gluten free and no dairy and find abundant choices.
A celiac can eat here. The servings are huge& the staff caring. Take out is extremely well done here. Outside seating.Dog friendly. I really recommend Joy Luck.
A friend and I decided on a whim to eat here. She had never had East Indian food and I loved the fact it was a vegetarian menu. The food was absolutely delicious, and we liked the no frills atmosphere. The portions were ample and we felt the prices were right for the quality and quantity of food served.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of our visit was after our meal. A womyn who worked there (orgot her name 😞) approached us and asked for suggestions on how to improve the customer experience! Wow! That is a first! We suggested not using Styrofoam and identifying various menu items as gluten-free, etc. We are both gluten intolerant. It was refreshing to see a business so keen on customer feedback.
We will be visiting again for sure!
I’ve been pining to come here and try their lattes for a while and so glad that I finally did! We went on a Saturday and the staff was so sweet and helpful. I have celiacs so they made sure to ensure that any of their gluten free scones weren’t cross contaminated and also started me clear of drinks I couldn’t have. I ended up getting the chocolate scone and the Kiwa Signature iced latte. I love black sesame so this was a treat. My boyfriend got the Biscoff iced latte which came with a cookie! We can’t wait to come back and try more from the seasonal menu :) and I’ll be back to work remotely from this cafe soon for it’s serene atmosphere (it reminds me of an art gallery or an upscale cafe in a metro area)
They can substitute rice noodles to make most of their ramen dishes gluten-free. The tantanmen ramen is the best I've ever had. This is also the first place I've been to in the US that has takoyaki on the menu. (Not a gf item).
