Choosing the Right Rug Posted on 29 Apr 15:21
As a designer I'm constantly looking for unique and colorful rugs to add to my client's spaces. There are a few things to remember when choosing a rug. These are a few of my favorite tips.
You need to have some rug on either side of the bed and at the end. It doesn't need to be completely under the entire length of the bed but it needs to be more than the width. Suggested sizes are 8′ x 11′ or 9′ x 12′. If you have a full or queen bed you can do a 6' x 9'.
I always recommend that all of your furniture is placed, in whole or in part, on the rug. To help you visualize just how big your rug will be in your room, try using blue painter’s tape or something similar to mark the edges. This will give you a good idea how the size will work in your room. Suggested sizes are 8′ x 11′ or 9′ x 12′
Just as in living rooms, be sure each piece of furniture is at least resting partly on the rug. The biggest rule here is to make sure you have enough room to pull a chair from under the table and it still be on the rug. Suggested sizes are 8′ x 11′ or 9′ x 12′ for dining rooms and 6′ x 9′ for breakfast rooms.
