Driving back to Washington, D.C. for a nearby retreat, we stopped at for lunch Horn O Plenty, a restaurant and market inside a quaint wooden building with an outdoor patio. Here’s our experience.
1) Food: Being a “freshraunt,” the menu includes better-for-you options, salads, and even gluten-free options.
I enjoyed the bowl of cream of mushroom soup, which comes with two pieces of buttered bread. (Ask for jam for the bread.) Despite being a bowl, it’s not super filling so the cheeses potatoes (beer cheese comes on top of the potatoes) was a perfect compliment.
My seven-year-old daughter appreciated the kids menu and enjoyed the grilled cheese.
2) Drinks: They have handmade sodas, coffee drinks, and more. If you have a sweet tooth, order the vanilla bean iced coffee.
3) Space: It’s well decorated, quaint, and the little market has some gems in it- maple syrup, pickled garlic scapes, “zing butter,” and more.
4) Service: It’s friendly, but slow. The restaurant had a healthy flow, but wasn’t packed and it took a long time for us to get our order.
My mom and I drove from the Pittsburgh area to meet a friend (from Harrisburg) for lunch at LIFeSTYLE Next Door. It was such a perfect little place to meet. My mom had the Hawaiian Poke Bowl, while my friend and I each order the Flatiron Salad. I have extreme dietary restrictions, including being gluten-free and lectin-free. Next Door was able to adjust the salad in order to accommodate my intolerances, and they did it with a smile! I didn’t get the name of the cook, but both she and Cassidy were so lovely with all of their help. Shoutout to Cassidy for letting me check all of the ingredients that concerned me and for being such a delight. I wish that I had a cafe like this closer to my home!
The atmosphere of the Jean Bonnet Tavern was very warm and relaxing with it's stone walls and wood. Hostess lit a candle after she sat us at the booth.
Our waitress was fabulous.
And our food was absolutely delicious. There was even a gluten free menu for one in our group.
The menu had a few different choices like the bison burger. With all the fixings, my bil said it was pretty good.
Other food ordered was the spicy chicken sandwich, turkey on croissant, fish sandwich and Asian salmon salad. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
I didn't see what was upstairs but there was a small gift shop right next to it.
I am gluten free and the pizza was fantastic. Got the meat lovers cauliflower crust, the toppings were extremely generous which is usually a problem with GF pizzas. They did not disappoint! I also got an order of fries that were unfortunately slightly underdone. However the pizza was too notch. Thank you!
Great local stop! Friendly patrons and staff. Felt very welcome as I entered the diner. Food was very good and even had gluten free options. Damon was my server and he was helpful, hard working and happy to be working there. Don’t miss this stop in Bedford Pa.
Wow. Great deals for all year round. They often have bulk orders of meats. I love there chicken mmmm. I took 40 lbs down to my friend in Port republic MD. I'm pretty sure the price was 80. They also have the best beef jerky and gluten free food. Also a candy section for the kiddos.
