Last night I went to Mexicali in Brescia, a place that opened in 2018 and is located on the outskirts of the historic center.
It is a large structure, divided into several rooms and with an outdoor area to be used in the summer.
This characteristic leads to not feeling too much mess during dinner and being able to enjoy the experience with more serenity, also because each area is welcoming, furnished with references to Mexico and, at the same time, is bright and well-kept. I found this restaurant well suited to birthdays, family dinners, private parties, aperitifs and even after dinner. So much so that at the table next to mine there was a family who had organized a surprise birthday for one of their members.
As can already be deduced from the name, here you eat Mexican and Tex Mex cuisine with proposals prepared individually by their collaborators starting from the raw material and preparing each component of the various dishes.
The menu is varied and ranges from meat, fish, vegetable (including many vegan dishes) and offers a dedicated menu even for the little ones.
I admit that I had already studied their offer on the site and I was struck by the large offer of cocktails, the wine list concentrated on Mexican products, the various offers divided according to the dishes (Tex-Mex, fajitas, parilla, tacos, burritos, meat, hamburgers...) because, for each type there are so many offers with typical, different ingredients that can really accommodate customers with different tastes.
A great aspect that I had not gleaned from the site but which they kindly explained to me is that almost all of their dishes (and there are quite a few) can also be had in a lactose-free, gluten-free and totally vegetable version precisely due to the fact that these are express dishes and entirely cooked by them from the beginning.
I admit that it was hard to choose and that I wasn't able to try everything I wanted because each course, as well as being tasty, is also plentiful. Nice and warm... in fact I will come back to try other dishes like the burritos.
I started with the Chili Nachos, a dish to share with my family. Abundant, warm, tasty and stimulate conviviality while eating one taco after another.
Then I tried the Fajitas Combo which is a meat dish with peppers and other ingredients, cooked on the grill, and then it was up to me to compose the "piadina" also deciding which sauces I wanted.
I couldn't resist the tacos and I was really undecided between which ones to choose so, thanks to the My tacos option, I was able to choose 3 different types. Among the 8 proposals, I chose to go with meat: de carnitas, pork tacos and de chicken. They may seem similar but the textures, internal ingredients and flavors were really different and allowed me to discover different products.
My daughter enjoyed the All American Hamburger... and even there the choice was difficult but I'm just writing that she didn't want to leave even a corner, including the fries.
Well, another point in their favor is certainly the varied possibility of choosing side dishes which is often not found in many businesses.
Then it was time for dessert. The Churros with chocolate or dulce de leche are inevitable while, also offering vegan options such as fresh pineapple, I decided to treat myself to the Tequilamisù... I can let you know that I would have gladly eaten one more.
In the drinks area I really struggled to choose also because I was also intrigued by the alcohol free offers; in the end I opted for sangria, an “El Diablo” cocktail, a draft beer and a bottled beer of Mexican origin.
Instead, although they also have a list of particular coffees, I went with the classic... but I will not fail to return and try both the dishes that I physically couldn't enjoy (being full) and also other cocktails and coffees.
The final touch, not to be underestimated, was the service: youthful, honest, competent and helpful.
Who knows, maybe next time I'll find some of you and we'll toast Mexico together!
