All the food was amazing. They do steamed vegetables instead of pasta as an option which is great for gluten free option or lower carb option. Service was great.
We travel to Southern California for a family trip. Both my daughter and I are Celiac and need gluten-free. We looked all over for good gluten-free chicken fingers and starbird came up.
We drove 15 minutes to come here but the food was worth the drive. The chicken fingers are amazing. The french fries are also gluten-free and fantastic. I highly recommend the gluten-free chicken nuggets. Plump, juicy, awesome crunchy exterior. Made fresh to order. I highly recommend. The staff was super helpful, courteous - excellent friendly customer service.
Delicious healthy plates at a price range that makes it an everyday option. Option to customize most of their plates to your needs (vegan, gluten free, vegetarian) and high quality ingredients make each of their offerings worth trying. Impressive drink menu boasting boba, fruit juices and other rabano creations not found anywhere else. My favorite is their white coconut boba!
Great crepes. The Gluten free ones are awesome! They're actually called galettes, but this name probably works better for Americans who don't know. Service was a bit slow, though.
My wife and I visited these guys after a long day of sightseeing and errand-running for a family event the following weekend. We were starving and looking for a place that had great gluten free options for my wife.
Boy, did this place deliver! They had GF pasta options that my wife was happy to choose from, and I was able to do two single slices, one each New York and Sicilian style. Everything was delicious, served with a smile, and right on time.
Definitely on the "come back" list next time we find ourselves in the LA area.
I love both BOLT locations, but the one in Hermosa is my favorite of the two. In fact, it's my favorite coffee shop to work out of in the South Bay.
Location: I love that it is walking distance to the beach. Parking is super easy with meters all around and free street parking on Herondo an ~8 minute walk away.
Facilities: Look at the photos! Quick pick-up and go cafe side on the left with seating and more seating inside, both countertop and regular tables with inside and outdoor options. The "inside" opens up to the outside so there is a constant cool breeze, especially pleasant when it's sunny out. Three bathrooms.
Food: I've only tried the baked goods, coffee and tea. Love that they have gluten free and vegan options. The magic bar is neither, but I am a fan.
Service: Everyone is SO nice!
Wifi: Great wifi and hotspot works well here too :)
The staff is super nice,, and listens to what you say!! The menu is full is yummy stuff, brocolinni and lobster ravioli for me 🤤. Gluten free options, seafood,, land food, veggies. The wine selection is good. Great location and awesome ambiance! Parking was easy too!!!
Monday nights 50% off from 5pm to 9pm. They have gluten free penne pasta ($2 extra) but the waitress said they cook it in the same water as the gluten pasta. Why bother having gluten free pasta if you serve it contaminated with gluten?? That's why only 3 stars. Service was great. Food tasted great.
One of if not my favorite dining experience so far in the South Bay area. The food was spectators & the wine recommendations helped make the flavors of the dish stand out. Great for date night or friends gatherings. Had great gluten-free options (plates that didn't contain gluten or could be subbed-out to be made GF). Will definitely be back again
Great guacamole. Large drink menu. Knowledgeable about gluten free gf food allergies. Outstanding fresh corn tortillas! Fish tacos were good. Salsa was great. Will go back. Friends had Chile Relleno and the short rib crispy taco.
Food was good, but service disappointing. I have a gluten allergy. Chipotles are normally great, they do a quick line wipe, change gloves and spoons. Well his location was resistant, I felt uncomfortable and as an inconvenience to them. Maybe they are not properly trained for allergies like other locations or maybe they don't care. They kept messing up the procedures and didn't even try to wipe the line for me. Very frustrating for a health conscious restaurant. Not likely to return to this location. Poor management it seems.
This is the only pizza place in town my family goes to regularly! We have celiac, so going out to eat is always a risk. But luckily for us the staff here are always understanding and helpful to do the best they can to keep our food from being cross-contaminated. The quality is always great and it is always a pleasure to go back!
I love the atmosphere and design choices at Slay Hermosa, from the neon light up sign to the murals. The lower patio is dog friendly although you’re right on the busy street corner, and they also have indoor and upstairs seating available if you don’t bring a dog. We were able to make a reservation on OpenTable, and they had parking available on the nearby streets.
The lamb meatballs appetizer come in a soup-like broth, and while it may seem tempting to enjoy it like soup after the meatballs, it’s really intended to be eaten together with the lamb, as it can be a bit salty on it’s own. Unfortunately, the server and menu didn’t mention that there were only 3 meatballs, so the 4 of us had to do an awkward split.
If it’s cold like it was when we went, I recommend the mussels entree, $26. If you’re gluten free, they’re able to remove the macaroni noodles and two pieces of bread, and if you’re dairy free they’re able to remove the butter. Although it wasn’t as filling without the bread, I was really glad that they were able to accommodate for dietary restrictions!
My husband and I were in town on vacation and found this little gem. Mama D's is a small, authentic Italian restaurant. The food and service were both fabulous! We couldn't have asked for anything better. The chocolate chip cookies served at the end of our meal were also delicious (who doesn't love a good chocolate chip cookie?!). They were such a pleasant surprise!
The staff were all friendly. I want to give a special shout out to our waitress, Jaime. She made sure our every need was taken care of. I'm gluten-free and she made sure the chef made the appropriate tweaks to make my meal GF. Thanks, Jamie!
If you're anywhere near Hermosa Beach, make it a point to have a meal here. You won't be sorry.
This is our go to place on the pier! The food is mostly bar food/sandwiches but is tasty! I have a gluten allergy so I love that the menus had gluten free options labeled. It really makes dining out a lot less stressful. I’ve had and enjoyed the chicken sandwich (with a gluten free bun), garlic fries (the star) and nachos. They also have a large selection of beers, customizable seltzers, margaritas and navy grog! Angel the bartender is so nice. I’ve met the manager several times too and she was very nice as well. Great spot for lunch or to catch a Sunday football game!
Best breakfast burritos near the beach! We’ve gone to both the Manhattan and Hermosa locations. I always order the Jackie O with potatoes and hot salsa on the side. Great range of offerings for different diet types. My daughter has to eat gluten free so we ordered the burrito bowl with corn tortillas and she made herself some breakfast tacos. Anytime we stay in the area, we always make it a point to eat at Brother’s!
I have gone here many times; I love the tacos and became familiar with the gluten-containing items, as I have a serious disease that can cause me to throw up and experience intestinal damage if I come into contact with just a little gluten.
Though I'd always had a good experience, I explained my restrictions to the cashier and asked if he could please tell the kitchen to avoid any gluten cross-contamination. He agreed.
I ordered a tamale for the first time, which was honestly very disappointing. The corn one was incredibly dry, and my dad's meat one was as well. Then, after I made myself finish it just for the sake of finishing, I noticed there was gluten in the tamales, a new change.
I asked the same cashier about this. He maintained there was no gluten in tamales until I pointed out the menu description. He had no clue about this important menu change and even more frustratingly, didn't seem to care. Even when I told him I might throw up.
If I was going to have a stomachache and intestinal damage, at the very least, I would have wanted it to come from something much better than the tamale. After contacting Guisado's, they offered me a full refund which makes me less bitter, but they also tried to gaslight me into thinking the gluten in tamales was not a new change, until I showed evidence otherwise
Still, if food allergies/restrictions aren’t an issue for you, I’d recommend going for the tacos.
