I’ve been coming here regularly for over a year now, sometimes eating multiple times a week when I need something fast. Until a few months ago the employees knew me by name, knew my “usual”, and everyone went above and beyond to make sure my experience was pleasant. I can’t eat gluten so Hat Creek is one of the few places I can safely eat without paying a ton of money. However, this review reflects my experiences of the last three months. Lately I still always get my food quickly and the employees remain kind and helpful. There’s always plenty of parking and the drive thru doesn’t take long. However, when I order my food for pickup or delivery there’s always something wrong with it — soggy fries, unseasoned chicken, and at least half the sauces I ordered missing. If you have an option for me to specify the amount of sauces I want online I expect that amount in the bag upon pickup. I want to continue to eat here, but the only time it’s remotely good is when I dine in where it’s always freezing inside, they only play modern country music and I typically can’t endure the sounds of screaming, unruly children. Understandable that Hat Creek is popular with families, but often the children dine inside instead of outside by the playground and their screams echo throughout the indoor dining area, no parental oversight, and they make it impossible to enjoy my meal. Perhaps my days eating at Hat Creek are over. Disappointing considering there’s few places in Austin where I can safely eat with celiac disease, but I can only endure so much before it makes no sense to pay $12+ for some nuggets and fries.

10/10 for brunch, especially thanks to their gluten free options! They have gluten free Benedict crab cakes! They were incredible. They also have lots of gluten free options including gluten free toast and gluten free fried tomatoes. but they DO NOT have gluten free pancakes so be aware of that.
