So I’ve been gluten free for a while and the bread scene is just rough…it just is! This is the best bread I’ve had! And the donut balls!!!OMG!!! I have no words! They are worth the drive from wherever you are! They come in threes because you can’t have just one! Dangerously delightful!
I’m going back tomorrow for more! Overjoyed that I found this place!
Amazing gluten free menu and service. These folks know what they are doing! GF food served on different coloured plates. So many pasta choices, pizzas and desserts. GF calamari, bruschetta and so much more. So happy Atly helped me find it ❤️
Truly incredible selection of gluten free foods. Flavourful, fresh and nourishing. Really love this place and not having to worry when ordering anything :)
We got the tempura, some sushi, swordfish, bruschetta! Everything was unreal. The cocktails and mocktails were very well made too! Fully Gluten Free restaurant which was amazing for celiacs! Highly recommend.
Excellent restaurant, very good and homemade meal! Impeccable service and very friendly owner. A restaurant this good and 100% gluten-free is rare these days. I live 2 hours from Quebec City and I will return. I recommend 12 stars out of 10.
Whoever we interacted with (I think the owner?) was very attentive to my friend and I, and the other patrons. I loved that everything what gluten free!! The food was classic and delicious. The frozen fish to take home looked vibrant and yummy too!
I’d avoid the GF bun it’s very dry and crumbly but they the most celiac safe place I know! Dedicated fryers, very knowledgeable staff and amazing GF fried chicken! When you order online they even have a celiac option to check off.
Soooooo good!! Highly recommend whether you need to eat gluten free or not! Super fresh, hot & fantastic tasting gluten free Chinese food. It's better than any "regular" Chinese food I'd had prior to being diagnosed celiac. Everything we tried was delicious - fried rice, chop suey, chicken balls, general tao chicken, etc. but my favourite was the honey garlic pork. Everything was so good we ordered more food for takeout to go along with our leftovers from dinner. Also a great selection of frozen items. It was well worth the hour & a half drive for us to get there & we'll definitely make the trip to get there a few times a year!
Julia made this an incredible experience! I am so grateful for Julia and The Mule, as a celiac and anaphylactic to Peanuts and Tree Nuts, my time finding restaurants that I feel truly safe is rare. This was the first place in Canada where I felt that safety to just explore the menu, relax, and enjoy. Everyone that came to our table was kind, informed, and awesome! Also the food IS AMAZING! Best tacos I’ve had in Ontario. Thank you again to Julia and the team for making a memorable meal and amazing experience. Will be coming back to Hamilton just for The Mule!
Ben and Naomi have put together easily one of the best cafes I've ever been to. I only visited twice while in Montreal, but I left feeling like I was a regular. The bread is amazing, the pastries are divine, and the classic Italian-style espresso is some of the best I've had outside of Europe. Whether or not you have Celiac, gluten sensitivity, any other allergies or none at all, I cannot recommend this little fallen piece of Elysium enough.
As a celiac, I was almost glutened here. When I asked a server if the beer was gluten free, I was told everything on the menu was. But when my lager arrived, the bottle listed barley. I double checked with another server, who confirmed it wasn’t gluten free, apologized, and kindly brought me a quinoa-based beer instead (which was good, just a little warm).
I don’t want to be too harsh. Overall, the food was great, and it’s such a gift to have a spot where I can enjoy a tres leches cake without fear. But this experience is a good reminder to always double check, even in places that seem safe. It also highlights how important it is for all staff to be fully trained on gluten and allergens.
I had incredible service! We were welcomed by Christina, a dedicated and attentive person. Being gluten intolerant, she took the time to show us in detail the service offered by the restaurant: separate kitchen for allergens, gluten-free products (dough, sauce, bread and dessert) and special hygiene for contamination. This is a restaurant that I would return to without hesitation. You made my day!
This place is now 100 percent gluten free. I confirmed Celiac safe with the server. No gluten in entire restaurant and they are cautious with product sources. To top it all off, they make their own honey on their rooftop. My husband and I were so excited to discover this lovely restaurant. The staff is also amazing. Support this restaurant, we need places like this to stay open and thrive. Mahalo and Merci Bistro Hortus!
delicious gluten free crepes! had a sweet one with apples and pears and caramel, wasn't bad. my husband had a savory one with egg and it was great! the people working there messed up though, we put in the order for 2 crepes and they only made the savory one for some reason. they came out and asked me what I ordered and I had to wait another 20 mins for it. it was especially strange since we were the only customers so not really sure how that happened, and we were in a bit of a rush so having to wait was annoying. they were nice about it though.
Winnie's has been a go to for my daughter who has Celiac. We have only purchased their desserts and she LOVES them. Maybe one day we will try some of their other food items. If you are looking for a CAKE you need to pre-order. They have various flavors available.
Absolutely worth going to. Yes my short review is biased, but if you read the longer version below. It’ll make sense.
Food: 10/10
Service: 10/10
Cleanliness: 10/10
Speed: 10/10

I won't pretend the restaurant is like a five-star hotel. In comparison to your top high-end luxury restaurants, it would be four stars. But you can't compare apples to oranges.
The one most crucial thing to note is the belief, the idea, and the story behind the restaurant. They are specially tailored to people who have strict allergy requirements. My personal needs are to avoid gluten, nuts, egg, and more. Try that anywhere else…. Most places will just "nicely" shoo you away—and while I understand any restaurant ultimately is a business to cater to the masses, those of us who have strict, deathly dietary requirements can finally experience a place to dine without fear. To enjoy a time with family and friends eating the same things. To experience the fun and joy of picking at another person's plate.
For those reasons, and to me, it's better than any Michelin-star restaurant. If you have allergies to gluten, if you have celiac disease, you can finally share the experience too. You may come out an emotional train wreck like me.
Always fantastic food and friendly service! Online stuff needs work though - online ordering perpetually says "coming soon" and the website menu is often out of date. But I'll give them a pass for that because the ability to go to a restaurant as a celiac and safely order anything I want off the menu is so fantastically wonderful I can't take a star off for such a small oversight.
As someone with Celiac disease and a severe peanut allergy, I’m always cautious when dining out, especially at Vietnamese restaurants. This spot stood out because they operate as a 100% dedicated gluten-free facility, which immediately gave me peace of mind. Their website outlines their allergy protocols clearly, and I appreciated being able to add notes about additional allergies through the delivery app (UberEats), a feature many restaurants disable.
It was a rare opportunity to enjoy dishes like a vermicelli bowl and spring rolls without concern. I shared the below dishes with my gluten-eating spouse and he enjoyed it as well:
B34. House Special XL Bowl (Meat Lovers)
A14. Popcorn Chicken
P42. Beef & Brisket Noodle Soup
The portions were generous, and typical sides like bean sprouts, lime, and basil were included at no extra cost. I’d order from here again next time I’m in Calgary.
My daughter and her husband took me out for dinner last night and chose this restaurant because it was gluten free. What a win! They were featuring a concert band and we were seated in the first seat, right beside them. We thought at first that it would be too noisy, and it was! But what fun! As my daughter said,
"We get to visit all the time, but when do we get to be entertained like this?" As expected, the food was great and I didn't have to worry about being sick. It was very special, and we will be back.
Just had an amazing experience at Selia Bar and had to share! The entire place is 100% gluten free, which was such a relief — no need to worry about cross-contamination at all. It’s so refreshing to be able to choose anything from the menu without second-guessing or stressing.
There were so many delicious options to pick from, and everything we tried was fantastic. Our server, Erick, was absolutely wonderful — friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience even better with his thoughtful service.
If you’re looking for a safe and genuinely enjoyable place to eat out, I highly recommend Selia Bar. I left feeling full, happy, and totally at ease.
My boyfriend is celiac and we have heard many great things about this place being gluten friendly so we gave it a try.
Our server was kind of rude, like she never smiled and looked like something was annoying her and that she didn’t want to be there (it was a busy Friday night which is understandable, but still, I felt a little uncomfortable with her).
My boyfriend got a GF pizza and I got a regular one. They tasted really good and mine was so big that I brought the other half home with me (the GF pizza is significantly smaller than the regular one FYI, we were hoping that it would be at least around the same size as a regular one considering how they present themselves as GF. Not a huge problem but it still seems unfair).
The next morning, my boyfriend was feeling symptoms as if he had gluten. He had definitely ordered the GF crust, so we are thinking it is maybe the pizza sauce or the meat contains gluten. Perhaps it is a misunderstanding on our part as he didn’t specify to the server that he is celiac, but you would think that if something is made GF, all the ingredients would be GF. Anyways we won’t be going back there which is a shame because there are lots of GF options on the menu that you can’t really find anywhere else around.
In my humble yet educated opinion (18 years celiac ) this is the best bakery I have ever eaten at. Great options for the dairy free and vegan eaters as well. From the ease of ordering 2 loaves of olive bread to the warm friendly atmosphere at the store my experience was perfect. I walked in expecting bread and left with so many sweet and savoury treats. Great little store for products as well. If you’re in the area for work or for a holiday and have special food needs this is the place to check out .
This place was incredible!!! We looked for a safe gf place for our celiac daughter, and this one was such a treat in that it is all gf. But even more amazing was the healthy, plentiful and incredibly tasty meals we had. We left fully satisfied and it kept us going for a very long time. Amazing service as well. Would highly recommend! Thank you for giving us an amazing meal. We hope for Impact restaurants to come to Vancouver, our home.
They had a lot of freezer items, and different shapes of gluten free pastas, which was nice to see. There were also a lot of lovely baked goods in the case.
I read that they had GF beaver tails, so that's why I came. I was excited to try my first beaver tail (newcomer to Canada). When I got it, it was slightly warm on the edges, but refrigerator-cold and damp in the middle. My partner told me they are usually fried, so it should have been piping hot. It was disappointing.
I was thinking about getting a sandwich, but overheard someone ask about getting pasta, but it would have taken 40 min for that. Surprising, since they use the dried pasta they sell to make it.
I had some questions about items, but felt dismissed and almost belittled by the answers. I was off-put by the rude tone, and combined with my disappointing menu item, won't be back.
I'm sure it's fine if you're just going for cookies or frozen goods, but some other folks and myself were wondering if someone was actually there. It took quite some time for the owner to come out from the back. Not sure if that's the norm- maybe they were short-staffed, but don't go unless you have lots of extra time to spare.
Cannot recommend more! It was safe for celiacs and even made a carnivore say he could become vegetarian. Really beautiful and tasty food! The staff is so polite and kind.
Sushi was delicious and great gluten free options. Staff was wonderful and tables were clean, as well as the rest of the establishment. Great experience would recommend.
Our server, Megan, was super helpful with Celiac disease accommodations, especially with double checking with the kitchen to make sure everything was safe for me. Also when we left we realized we forgot our extra fries in a to go container at the table, and came back 3 minutes later to them being gone. We were ready to accept our reality, but Megan came over and made us a new box right away. Thank you to Megan and the staff at this location for an amazing meal!
Absolutely LOVE this spot, have eaten in-restaurant twice over the last year, and ordered delivery multiple times, with someone Celiac at home we have NEVER had any issues with gluten!
Food is delicious and fresh, service is spectacular, honestly absolutely love this place!
We’ve had oysters, fish & chips, tacos, poutine (also a fan of their vegan options for poutine, garlic aioli and tartar sauce!), their deep fried Oreos are to die for, and the selections for beers and drinks are always nice!
(Ps, sorry for the almost demolished food pic, have tried and failed to take a picture before digging in for almost a year now)
