The Big Breakfast was big, the long black was delicious, the staff were friendly with a smile and a quip whilst still professional. I can't understand the poor reviews. Our meal arrived in good time - it was obviously freshly cooked. I asked for GF, and nothing was too much trouble. They swopped out my sausage for halloumi, and they hid a tasty tomato under the bacon. Best bit - the potato rosti/hash brown. Beautifully seasoned. There was a whole shelf of gluten-free sweet treats, 7 options! If only I'd had room after breakfast.

OMG I had the most delicious gluten free lunch here. Salmon and potato ball with a fresh and delicious side salad. As a coeliac, I didn't feel at all sick after it, so I would suggest the food is prepared well from a cross-contamination perspective. I have eaten here a few times over the years and have never been ill. All I wish is that I took some of those tasty treats away with me! I'll definitely be back here. A place we always go to when down in Invercargill. The only problem with this place is that it's always so busy. But great vibe and highly recommend. If you are a coeliac please do recheck when you go there about any of your concerns.

Unfortunately they don’t do soy milk so while the barista & coffee is good it’s not my favourite. They took the time to explain why they do the mills they do though and the servers here are so nice and helpful. They also cater to people with allergies, like vegan and gluten intolerant people. Love the atmosphere here. Hopefully one day they can make their own soy milk! 🤞

Garden center staff were great and the two stars is for them and ONLY for them for being so helpful. I would only ever come back to the garden center in future if at all. However the three different times I've been to the cafe, I was served at the counter by the same middle aged woman in the most rudest manner with hardly any eye contact, no smile, and I would go as far as to say I was treated with open hostility at my last visit. When I asked about gluten free food in my last visit (I didn't at the first two), she told me nothing is gluten free (obvious lies given the labels on the food in the cabinet if you haven't figured it out yet). I usually give people the benefit of doubt, assuming they are having a shit day, etc, but after three visits and observing the same attitude only to myself and not to the other customers before or after me, it was obviously that "people like me" (interpret that how you will) are not welcome here. I had my little toddlers with me each time as well and was horrified at how blatant the racism was the third time around. I'll be supporting every other local business except Nichols Cafe.
