I have eaten at the location in brooklyn and this location did not disappoint! My fiancee is celiac so it is important that restaurants take the allergy seriously and prevent cross contamination, which they did ❤️ every pizza we have tried is delicious and the cheesy garlic breadsticks are phenomenal. We also love all of the cocktails. Our servers were attentive and the atmosphere was inviting
The best vegan/gluten-free waffles I have ever had. Plus, my decaf oat milk latte was good. Impressed with the food. There was a bit of wait on Sunday morning.
Great place to stop for a quick smoothie, juice or snack or work remotely from! I love the chocolate covered banana smoothie and their gluten free avocado toast! Lots of allergy friendly foods!
Excellent food. Casual atmosphere. Not a lot of indoor seating but plenty outside. I had the trey-mendous burger with sweetpotato fries. Sweet tea was SWEET and AWESOME. Wife had a chickens salad sandwich on a GF bun - which she said was great. Quite a compliment for anything gluten-free, imho.
We really enjoyed this restaurant! We have young kids and we are newly gluten free, dairy free, and egg free and eating out has become more difficult than it's worth. So this was actually the 1st time in 8 months that we have eaten out.
The owner was so very helpful and SO patient with all of our questions! We will definitely be back!
This is a nice clean place for a flavorful coffee. Pleased to find breakfast with fresh ingredients and pastries are delicious 😋 . Gluten free options in pastries as well.
When you buy omelette is it two eggs? Why am I still hungry? Why didn't I get any salad dressing?
I asked for gluten free and trusted my server but it sure wasn't udis. I buy udis and that wasn't it
I'm not sure if this is one of those places that starts the tipping at 18% unless you override it. I thought my service was pretty good until she forgot to give me coffee when I asked for some at the end of my meal instead she just brought me my check. They weren't that busy she could have asked me before giving me my check but she seemed totally forget. I would've preferred 15% tip since I have to drive to buy coffee now.
Not good at all. Somehow the cashier thought I said no meat on my Reuben. It was fixed by putting the gluten free bread back through the toasting process and then adding meat.
Came in today for lunch, the lass behind the counter made eye contact and turned around to continue prepping something. We were the only people in line to order. Her coworker nudged her so we could order, she persisted doing something (he wasn't doing anything and said he couldn't help us) and then took several minutes to turn around and engage us. We waited for 10 minutes. I asked a basic question about the WF (wheat free) tags being different than what they show online (which is GF Gluten Free, and not the same thing, I'm Celiac) and she just kept saying I don't know, I don't know, I don't know what that is.
It was awful. It was disheartening and I was embarrassed, we turned around and left.
"Love at first bite."
Gluten-free treats were a win and a must try!
Young gentleman at counter shouldn't have been laying on the glass it gave uninviting energy. We also did not get one of our treats we requested but the treats we did receive were lovely and delicious.
Food : They have a few vegan options and at least one naturally gluten-free option. Their coffee was really good. I had a red velvet latte with oat milk. The hash browns I got (and reason I gave them 4 stars) were greasy and a bit undercooked on the inside.
Atmosphere: It is cute and comfy inside. My friend and I were able to hear each other talk with no trouble. The music was just loud enough to be distracting, maybe because I liked the music.
I can see this place being a good place to go and work and just to hang out with friends.
Coffee is great. Tea is ok - comes in those plastic mesh bags ☹️
GF ginger snaps are amazing. Even if you don’t have a gluten allergy the ginger snaps are delicious.
This place was amazing! I sat at the bar and enjoyed overlooking the kitchen. It’s clear that they cook most of the food from scratch with fresh ingredients. I asked the waitress what she would recommend without dairy or gluten and she suggested the summer veggie noodle bowl (with rice noodles). It was delicious- fresh tomatoes and green beans and just the right amount of a spicy, crunchy sauce. It’s a small place, but clean and comfortable with some outdoor seating. I would go out of my way to eat here again and highly recommend. Prices were very reasonable given the high quality of the food. Oh, and while I didn’t partake, the bakery items looked and smelled delicious.
I recently came to Madhatter’s for brunch, and I loved the diversity of the menu. They have breakfast all day which is a plus! I tried the wasabi salmon bowl, with an iced Vietnamese coffee. I have zero complaints, they’ve got me hooked on the coffee now. I’ve also ordered cakes for my family member’s birthdays and they are pretty delicious. The tiramisu is a must (but then again I am biased because I love coffee). They have gluten free and vegan options for savory items and sweet items which is a must. Staff is always super friendly!
Cute market, lots of local and small business choices. Food was in a big portion and tasted pretty good! I am celiac, and didn't have a problem getting a gluten free daily omelet special with grits.
We were next door having our windshield chip repaired and i waited till it was finished and decided to get something to eat. Saladelia was fantastic! I got tuna on sourdough (the softest i ever had) bread. The only downside is that they do not accept cash. But i just used my credit card. If you do not mind using your CC... Then i highly recommend Saladelia!
Btw.. they have Gluten free options as well.
My wife and I frequent the Fayetteville Rd. location and we generally always have good food and service. I particularly like their market hash, although their turkey burger is delicious. The Bloody Mary with a slice of their “million dollar bacon” is worth it. My wife usually gets a healthy drink, like “morning meditation,” which is always delicious.
Plenty of gluten-free options. Any other dietary restrictions can be accommodated, just inform your server.

After 3 years, I decided to give Makus another chance. I went to Makus in New Hope Commons, Durham in a Tuesday afternoon, and when I entered its lackluster ambiance with cheap-looking uncomfortable high chairs, I was surprised that there's not a single employee in the front. I saw about 2 of them in the back, seemingly preparing the empanadas.
I was ready to order but no one was there to accept my order. I almost left Makus until I saw the bell on the concession with a notice saying, "NEED HELP? RING ME PLEASE!"
I rang the bell once, no one came; I rang twice, finally, an employee! I ordered 2 beef empanadas & 1 ham & cheese empanada for a total of almost $13.
There was only 1 customer before me, waiting for her order when I went. While I was waiting, the employee who was smoking earlier outside came in and just ignored me as he returned back to work in the back.
At around 15 min. mark of waiting, an employee went to the front, holding a plastic with a small takeout box inside. I stood up and asked if my order was ready, the woman just nodded without saying a word, just cold and expressionless.
Finally, after about 20 minutes of waiting just for 3 empanadas, the same woman handed me the plastic with my order. I thought they were busy preparing empanadas in the back. Why'd it take so long just to get 3 empanadas ready?
Out of all the empanadas my girl & I have tried: Filipino-style, Ilocos-style & El Salvadorian style in the Sabor restaurant nearby, the empanadas in Makus are the smallest. Each empanada cost about $4 (a dozen for $47 - seriously, who would buy a dozen of these?). I'd be fine with this size if the empanadas are gourmet quality with astonishing fillings and flavors, but the taste was alright - nothing special, and definitely not worth $4 in our book.
The good part was that the empanadas were not doughy, so the texture was fine. The sauce that came with it was alright, and the 1 small cup is just fine for 3 tiny empanadas.
When I came home to eat the 3 empanadas with my girl, she asked me why I returned to Makus after we were disappointed in our first visit a few years ago. I said that I wanted to give it another chance. Now, I deeply regret this decision.

The atmosphere is second only to the food. What a great experience. The gluten free options made it great for everybody in our group.
I can't wait to come back
Compliments to the chefs at the Goat. They're true professionals, and it's clear that they take immense pride in their craft. I dined in here the other day, and I'm allergic to gluten, dairy, nuts, fruit, and vegetables. The kitchen was extremely accommodating of my strict dietary requirements and did a good job of preparing a tasty meal. *Chef's kiss*
The only reason I gave this rating is because I eat gluten-free meals, per medical advice. I called this location at least 5 times straight, and it would ring 5 times and then I'd get a busy signal. Some iHops serve gluten-free and i needed to know before driving there. They just lost a customer who was bringing family. Oh well!!!
Seriously best fare I’ve had in Durham!! Chef Harry accommodated gluten free and everything was amazing. Shea’s creative cocktail Khi’s Berry Violet Martini has won me over. Came here for a birthday dinner but will be back again for Jazz Wed and brunch weekends. Gonna try everything on the menu!!
Such a great, open atmosphere to grab a coffee or have one of their incredible sandwiches. The turkey pear was excellent. Gluten free options were a plus. Peaceful inside area with easy access to a courtyard for outdoor games. Also, large quiet work spaces in the neighboring building. Will definitely be returning!
The gluten free bread options here are very good. The Philly cheese steak had a GF hoagie and the mushroom swiss burger had a GF brioche bun, for a typical additional charge.
Both sandwiches were good, although I didn't think the sauce matched the mushroom swiss burger (personal preference). The potato salad had plenty of bacon, but a little too much green onion flavor; however, I can see other people liking it.
Online ordering for pickup made getting lunch a breeze, but make sure to check your sides.
Delicious I got the Hale salad! I am lactose intolerant and gluten free by allergy not choice. This salad was perfect! I like extra dressing so they accommodated me! I also got extra vegan cheese and vegan bacon. It was perfect! I'll be Back! I messed up the salad before I could take a good picture!
We love first watch, but in my experience this location has fallen short on more than one occasion, whether we dine in or carry out.
TL;DR: I'd heavily recommend the Bradford location over this one.
Longer Explanation: We decided to order brunch for carry out today, and needed Gluten Free toast due to an allergy. The app does not allow us to mark this as a substitution, so we had to call. When placing our order, we were told it should be ready in about 15 minutes. So, we show up in 15 minutes and food isn't quite ready.. Not a problem, we sit and wait about 10 more minutes when our order is finally brought out to us. This alone wasn't enough to be a bother, they're busy, I get it.. But when the food did come out it was missing an entire meal. We were told to wait "just a moment" but it wasn't for another 10 or so minutes before that meal was brought to us. When we finally got our food, the first meals brought to us had been cold. While all orders were accurate, we had issues with under cooked potatoes, under seasoned food, and all around just an unfortunate experience. We'll be going to the Bradford location or another place next time.
