Being a celiac and finding about this gluten free bakery in Basel made me very excited, so I went one Saturday. But my experience was rather unfortunate. The lady at the counter was not willing to answer any questions regarding the constituents of the products and asked me to check the website. As a customer, if I am buying a product I have the right to ask what’s in my food especially in a sensitive situation like being a celiac. The conversation was unfriendly and repelling. I bought a bread and a cake and got out of that place as soon as possible. And then I checked the reviews on google and realized this behavior was not uncommon. Their bread was rather fine but cake was not good. The overall experience does not call for going back.

My absolute favorite restaurant is Tibits in Basel. I love the different offerings of hot and cold dishes that make you happy without meat. I particularly liked the many dishes with different legumes. Everything is well marked so that even allergy sufferers can find their way around without any problems. I also like that people affected by celiac disease are taken into consideration. If I can wish for something, it would be a visit to Tibits

We're lucky to have Café Bruderholz, what an upgrade for the area! Large sun terrace that can be used all year round, depending on the weather; incredibly nice staff that are always happy to engage in a conversation - thank you Jakob, Andres, Béa and everyone else - very good coffee! There are also delicious sandwiches and salads, as well as Birchermüesli. And: There is an extra play room for the little ones with a dollhouse, wooden train, rocking horse and books. So you can actually always go there. Personally, after two years, I would like to see a change in the cake selection, even if the cakes on offer (gluten-free ones are also available) are very tasty.
