The breakfast was really tasty and the service was also absolutely accommodating.
Unfortunately, my wife's breakfast was not completely gluten-free (we had mentioned celiac disease when making the reservation) or there were contaminations in the kitchen.
Two hours after breakfast, she struggled with severe nausea and pain for the rest of the day.
Very nice service, very tasty and high quality food made from fresh ingredients. They are also very familiar with gluten-free food. I was here today for the first time but certainly not the last. Gladly again! 👍🏻
For many decades, Gemmel was one of the traditional restaurants for fine French cuisine on the St. Johanner Markt. After a short interlude, a new generation has now taken over, wiped the dust from the dining room and menu and created "a gem", a little gem just a few steps away from the crowds and extremely average food at Saarbrücken's St. Johanner Markt. The mid-century seating is stylish and understated enough to showcase the listed interior with its Art Nouveau tiles (before the old Gemmel moved in, the room was a horse butcher's shop). The service was warm and nonchalant, and special requests (I have to live gluten-free) were implemented naturally and without any problems. The evening menu was small, with newly interpreted classics (cod with black pudding crust, roast beef with mac and cheese and salsify) on an equal footing with vegan and vegetarian dishes. The small wine list impresses with regional delights (Auxerrois from the Moselle, Riesling from the Saar, Chardonnay from the Palatinate). The kitchen works precisely, the food was extremely tasty, the presentation was up to date, and the portions were filling. High level without pretentious chi-chi. Gemmel's (metaphorical) daughters have taken the traditional restaurant into the 21st century and to new heights. Our future favorite restaurant when visiting Saarland. Or to put it in Berlinerian terms: Jab, no need to complain! ;) Thanks for the lovely stay!
