The glutenfree patisserie is just amazing. They have so much glutenfree bakes as cakes, breads, buns and so mich more. The coffee is good as well. Highly recommended!
Very good self-service burgers. In summer, there are few options for cooling off other than the excellent, supposedly homemade ice tea. My colleagues with intolerances were happy about the gluten-free option.
Lovely little cafe with the nice feature that everything is served completely gluten-free. First there was a burger (1x chicken and 1x normal beef) with potato wedges and homemade mayo. We also had the chickpea curry with sweet potatoes. Afterwards we each took a piece of different cake to take home with us.
My wife has never eaten crumb cake anywhere else and was absolutely thrilled. The chocolate and nut cake were also great.
The next day we tried the homemade waffles. Great taste here too, as a non-Zölli person I tasted almost no difference in the waffles and cakes compared to dishes that contain gluten.
The service was great on both days.
Definitely a recommendation if you are in Düsseldorf.
My gluten-free mecca! Whenever I'm nearby, there's no way around the Backbrüder (bakery brothers). Great croissants, chocolate-flavored pastries, and heavenly cakes. My favorite: the raspberry-lemon cloud (see forum). Unfortunately, the café had to make way for a bakery for classes. A bit of a shame—hence only 3 stars for the ambiance.
Fantastic spot with gluten free and veggie/vegan options. I haven’t had a veggie burger since living in Europe because they usually contain wheat, so I was very excited to eat one here. I ended up eating here every day I was in Köln because it was a safe and delicious option.
I was ill for a long time and had no idea I was gluten and lactose intolerant.
When the doctor told me I would have to avoid these products for life, I was devastated.
I felt sad, restricted, and somehow excluded.
But then I discovered your café – and suddenly, joy returned!
I can finally enjoy myself without fear or deprivation.
Thank you for creating such a special place.
I wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart, and that many more people may find this happiness with you 💜
The four of us ate burgers here today and were absolutely thrilled. Even the gluten-free burger was really tasty. The fries could have been a bit less salty, but otherwise, they were great!
We usually always make reservations, but spontaneous visits are usually no problem, depending on the time of day and the time of year. It's also possible to order food for pickup via Wolt (I think).
Upon arrival, you'll be greeted very warmly in the entrance area on the canal side and then shown to your table, or to a free table without a reservation. Seating is available both inside and, in the summer, outside on the two-story terrace. If it's a bit cooler, you can ask for a blanket. Ashtrays are also available if needed.
As for drinks, soft drinks, homemade lemonades, standard beers, wine, and cocktails are available. No one will go thirsty here.
The burgers and side dishes are mid-range in price, but you also get a lot for your money. Both the portion size and the quality are second to none. The cheese, for example, comes from the Hafenkäserei in Münster, and the other ingredients are also mostly sourced locally. As for the food on offer: there are all sorts of burgers (gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan if needed), potato fries, sweet potato fries, nuggets, and much more. It's definitely worth taking a look at the menu (it's available online in German and English).
The ambiance is great, and especially in the summer, sitting on the terrace in the evening after a really good meal is incredibly pleasant. When it's busy, the noise level is naturally a bit louder, but still far from that of a construction site or a nightclub. Otherwise, the restaurant is tidy and clean.
The staff are very friendly, seem extremely satisfied with their work, and will go the extra mile. This is reflected in the quality of the food and service.
We've eaten at Hochstapler several times and would definitely come back.
Always happy. You can always find something at the buffet. You can tap fresh table water and there are fresh juices, lassi, but also beer and wine.
The potato gratin is great and now they even serve fries on a regular basis. You can also eat gluten-free and vegan. The ingredients are always high quality.
Cakes, rolls, coffee,... You can always find a reason to go. There are also delicious things to take home in deposit jars. Like soups, sauces,... or pastries to give away. Employees are always friendly.
Be careful of the hot chocolate, it only looks small. :D
Too good and warm welcome. Plus this restaurant has a large gluten-free menu which is rare. We can enjoy it as a family with my sister who is gluten intolerant.
Gluten-free bread options to all egg dishes possible. I had a gluten-free almond cake that was ok, nothing really fancy, also the service is kind on one hand but also a bit cross-tracked on the other hand. I am really spoiled from the States when it comes to service statements. As celiac, I am grateful for the little things but I think this place could be even a 5star spot if it hits gluten-free options also for pancakes and oat bowls. Think of it!
My girlfriend and I love this place! We come here once a month (we are both students living on a budget) and always leave satisfied.
Why? The food is really good, the prices are affordable and fair, the staff is kind, patient and competent. My girlfriend has celiac disease and they have a variety of delicious gluten-free options. For environmentally conscious people: All menu options are 100% vegan.
Recommendations: We really love the Kapsalon and the burgers. The best part: The fries portions are small, but you can always order more. Reducing food waste in such a pragmatic way is a great idea. We also love the different seasonal dishes.
Also: The restaurant employs people with disabilities. They always do a great job and we are very happy to support such an establishment :)
TLDR: Great place, great food, good prices, amazing staff.
Extra stars for the beautiful location and view and for the fact that there is certainly gluten-free food, with the staff really patiently answering all questions. I'm really glad you exist!
For us, Franz Ferdinand is the best place in Bochum for Austrian cuisine. The food is high-quality, delicious, and lovingly prepared. What's especially cool is that from the terrace, you can even see a few animals from the zoo behind it. You don't get that everywhere.
And the place looks really impressive.
The menu offers many classic dishes, but also modern interpretations. Especially good for people with food intolerances: There are many gluten-free options.
The service is attentive, friendly, and fast. Even if the restaurant isn't one of the cheapest, the quality is definitely worth the money. Everything is clean, well organized, and run with passion.
In conclusion:
Stroll around the zoo beforehand—it's small but cute. Then head to Franz Ferdinand. This isn't a restaurant visit; it's an excursion with guaranteed enjoyment. Reserving a table is worthwhile; it's often busy. We'll definitely be back.
Really great experience. The staff were lovely and welcoming and as someone who has to eat gluten free we're very helpful as my German is not great.
Would 100% recommend coming here. Oh, and try the pink balsamic vinaigrette! It was delicious!
Very good service. They try very hard to implement the customers' wishes. For example, that you can order gluten-free bread from Liefernado. Very friendly and very customer oriented. The food there is very tasty. I will definitely order more often now.
Big portions and they give you enough sauce/dressing to fill your big portion 🙏🏼 no dry lettuce for me 😂
They are also very nice and friendly and have a menu that labels their allergens- very accommodating to make things fit within diet restrictions; lots of gluten free options!!
Very tasty food as long as it is not gluten free.
When asked to toast the gluten-free bread twice (otherwise it unfortunately won't taste good as it is stored frozen), the response was nodded, but the employee, who doesn't really speak German, didn't understand and unfortunately didn't do it.
But very tasty for “normal” bread.
There are currently no parking spaces.

Good sodas, very good burgers. Pancakes and (other) desserts were also very good. Gluten-free/lactose-free versions available upon request.
The service was very friendly and very committed to offering us additional dishes. :) the recommendations would be very appropriate.
Sanitary facilities not in the best condition, but clean. Overall a great experience!
Friendliness is a foreign word for the service. Nevertheless, the food was prepared quickly and tasted good too.
What I find a disgrace is that I had to pay an extra charge of €3(!) per half loaf for gluten-free bread. In all other subways I never had to pay an extra charge, but I had to pay for half a loaf of bread like my sister did for a whole loaf.
